The 2006 Computex Booty Haul
For some reason, I haven’t figured out exactly what it is, whenever I attend a trade show like Computex, manufacturers like to shower me with gifts. I can only assume they do it because I’m a really nice guy. I would hate to think they only give me free stuff because I run a very big tech site that can give them press exposure. OK, I’m pretty sure they do it for the latter reason instead of the former.
At any rate, I scored some really nice stuff this year. Some of the more noteworthy items include a 1GB flash drive from Corsair, 2 GB of really fast DDR2 RAM from OCZ Technology, a 700 Watt power supply, also from OCZ, a nice watch from Abit and a nice saddle bag from MSI to carry it all. There were also a bunch of golf shirts and T shirts that are not in the photo and I got an extra bag from MSI because I really dig that big zipper it has on it.
The best gift came from ECS, who was kind enough to pick up the tab for the Taipei and China leg of my trip.

Lucky lucky you! Do they usually just give this stuff away freely at the trade show? Or do you have to specifically ask for the freebies? Or pretend you are a big shot importer?
On another note: What is the language of business over there at Computex? Is it mainly Taiwanese or is it English?

Everyone I talked to spoke English.

Was anyone in the industry aware of your website? I guess you probably took the opportunity to make some great contacts!
Reply to this commentOf course everyone knew me. I’ve been dealing with them for years. Most of the computer products we reviewed are made by companies with head quarters in Taiwan.
I was there more to solidify old contacts more than making new ones.
