The Apple iPad Is A Great Workout Companion

Apple iPad

I’ve been finding more and more uses for my Apple iPad and one of best so far has been at the gym. For me, the iPad is one of the best way to get over the boredom of spending 45 minute to an hour on the elliptical trainer. The gym where I work out at has rolls of TVs in front of their cardio trainers but they’re always tuned to some boring news program and there’s no sound.

The iPad allows me to have a personal media center right on the elliptical trainer. I’m using it mostly to watch video podcasts like TWIT while working out. It sure makes the time fly by a lot faster.

Since the iPad is not available in Canada yet, it does attract a lot of attention from other gym users. My cardio sessions are often interrupted by members asking questions about the device.

Don’t Have an iPad But Want One?

I’ll be holding a contest to give away a 16GB Apple iPad this coming Monday as part of the launch of my new book, Make Money Online: Roadmap of a Dot Com Mogul. Keep an eye out for it!

I’ll see you guys at tonight’s GatherSuccess Challenge.

I find it funny that you work out. Just doesn’t seem like you’ve progressed much in that category. Who knows though. . .maybe it was just an old photo of you that I saw last.

Normally I try not to post comments that don’t add any value, but:

      1. After I read this “I find it funny that you work out.”

i was ROTFL. Sorry John! 😛

        1. John Chow is skinny but takes 3 hour lunches. Of course he works out!

    2. Who are you to say such thing to anyone?

Working out is just a way to keep yourself fit, it does not mean that yu would have a perfect body like that of a model.

  2. You’re not worried of dropping it or getting sweat on it John??

    1. John Chow says:

Na not at all. It is nice and secure on the trainer.

  3. d3so says:

Whooo! I can’t wait til the contest starts.

I haven’t received your book yet John 🙁
I’ve been trying to contact you whether you’ve shipped it out already or not. Please get back to me.

    1. It is available via Amazon here: so what is the problem? SY

      1. d3so says:

Awhile back John was offering to give away his book if you signed up under his link for the shoemoney system.

  4. Wow! I never thought of using it like that but you’re right! Hopefully your Ipad won’t fall on the ground…See that happening to a lot of Ipods and cell phones…

    1. Maybe some wireless headphones would help. Most people I see are using some pretty short headphone cords… a disaster waiting to happen, especially when they drop their towel and instinctively dive for it…

    2. you found it interesting, too, didn’t you?

  5. dg says:

I loaded the P90X workout videos onto mine. Works great!

    1. Have you tried the Insanity workout yet? I know someone doing it and they say it’s MUCH harder than P90X.

  6. Wow, you’re lucky to be able to afford the iPad. I’m saving up to get me one soon! They are so cool and I love your newfound use for yours–it makes perfect sense!

  7. Can I enter even if I live in Asia?

    1. Good question, me also wants to know, will the contest be international or “regional”? SY

    2. John Chow says:

The contrst will be world wide.

      1. Thanks John! That is great, so many contests on the internet are “US and Canada only”, that makes for a pleasant change, SY

      2. Free Picks says:

i am still confused how to participate in the contest?

    3. This is open for the whole world Paul

  8. Melvin says:

that would be a cool contest.. expect me to join that full-blast! 🙂

  9. Stefan says:

You have to admin, Apple makes some intuitive products

    1. Apple knows for it classic and awesome look.

  10. Great, great idea… thanks for giving me another reason to convince my wife I should get one!

Podcasts made my commute enjoyable. Sounds like this is exactly what I need for the gym.

  11. I want an IPad but I was wondering if I should wait till the 2nd or 3rd generation. But that doesn’t mean i won’t take a shot at your contest.

It must be somewhat annoying to have people ask you about while you work, but its a great conversation starter!

  12. Always the trendsetter, aren’t you John! Just don’t sweat on the ipad. Is there some form of skin or sleeve available to protect it a little bit better? If not, I’m sure we’ll find them available soon.

    1. I haven’t checked but I’m betting Zagg will release (or has released) an invisible shield. Those things are amazing, btw 🙂

  13. fas says:

The ipad is more of an attention grabber than anything else.

    1. It’s nice to do some quick work, and the touch keyboard is pretty cool!

  14. Andrea Barr says:

    Hi John
Haven’t got an ipad yet waiting for the kinks to be worked out but I too will be taking it ot the gym. I spend more time on the bike and I’ve never had any problems with my electronic devices falling. I use a longer cord but not much longer dont weant it to get caught in the pedals. Anyway eagerly awaiting the contest and book!

  15. I’ve noticed quite a few posts on the ipad lately…with good reason…but you’ll probably rank well pretty soon for some of those ipad keyword if you continue…

    good work john!

    1. I agree with you! He will surely rank well …….

      1. I wonder if many people picked up on that or if they thought that John just really liked the ipad 🙂 I’m sure John liking the Ipad def helps the writing…

  16. Linda says:

Why not go for a brisk walk if you find going to the gym so boring? There’s nothing better on a bright spring morning than a walk in the park. You also get the benefit of some good clean air (depending of course where you live)

    1. John Chow says:

A walk isn’t a workout. It’s a walk. And it’s pretty hard to run with an iPad. 🙂

      1. Its like carrying a laptop and running!

      2. Walking can definitely be a workout John!

  17. Bill says:

You sir, are a douchebag. I would take my iPad to the gym, but I don’t wanna be the dbag in the gym.

    1. John Chow says:

How am I being a douchebag by taking an iPad to the gym? I answered all questions that people had about it. I never ignored them and said go away.

  18. scott says:

I still question the need for the device. I guess this is one, but pretty much every gym i’ve been at lets you choose the channel on the tv that you want.

    1. The things I want to watch aren’t on any channel, they’re on podcasts and websites, and they’re on demand.

I think it’s a device that people who are doing business on the go could have a great need for, and everyone else will find their own uses for it. I didn’t need my iPhone, but now it’s hard to imagine doing business without it!

  19. Waiting for the upcoming contest eagerly………..!

  20. Traveler says:

    i don’t like this IPad 🙁

  21. David Koh says:

Yup, waiting for the contest with a lot of anticipation. The other day I saw someone using the Ipad at some MRT station here in Singapore. It was the first Ipad I saw for real as it is not officially being sold here yet.

  22. Thats the most coolest thing to gym along 🙂 ,

    1. Yes as long as every one do not have iPad.

  23. May be you should put a FAQs board next to your ipad so that people don’t need to bug you. LOL.

  24. tent poles says:

I see….so the iPad is a chick magnet at the gym too!

I’m sure you’ll keep finding more and more everyday uses for the iPad as times goes on.

  25. TOM says:

Cool. Wish I have one. Check out my blog and tell me how I can improve it and make lots of money like you do ; )

  26. You simply love attention John … don’t you ?

    1. You just learned this?!
