The Herman Miller Embody – The Ultimate Office Chair for Bloggers

Some would say spending $1,600 on a Herman Miller Embody chair is crazy, but then again, I’m a pretty crazy guy. If you’re a blogger who sits in front of a computer all day, then having a comfortable chair is a necessity, not a luxury. The Embody represents the ultimate office chair. Yes, the price is pretty outrageous, but it’s a lot cheaper than getting back surgery.

What do we do every day? We sit. We sit in the office and at home. Staring at our computer screens moving nothing but our fingers. We get stiff and tired. Because sitting is bad for you. Embody is good for you. An agile chair that keeps your body and brain limber all day. Designed specifically for people who work for hours at computers, Embody is the first work chair that benefits both mind and body.

The Embody offers a magnitude of adjustments. It takes a while, but once you get everything adjusted, it’s the most comfortable office chair in the world. The Embody’s signature feature is its seating and back support system. Instead of a flat piece of form covered with leather, the Embody seat and back are a dynamic matrix of pixels that stimulates blood and oxygen flow by reducing seated pressure. The chair back adjusts instinctively to every move you make and keeps support of your lower back constant. Embody keeps you in a neutral, balanced posture as you work, so you stay relaxed and focused.

Every Herman Miller Embody is custom made to order. Want to change the color of the seating surface and add chrome legs? They can do that. Embody chairs start at $1,199 but if you go crazy with the options, you can easily push the price to over $2,000.

Is it worth it? That’s a personal question that only you can answer. My wife sat on it and said she didn’t like it. I told her it’s because it was adjusted for me. After re-adjusting the chair for her body, she fell in love with it and I’m going to have to buy another Embody chair now. Her Embody will be in white.

  1. Herman Miller chairs are unbelievable. I’m still not ready to drop that kind of dough on a chair, but I suppose it could be a new goal . . .

@Joshua Dorkin Maybe when you get bigger pockets, you’ll be able to drop the dough. πŸ™‚

      1. @John Chow That’s the idea!

Saw you got a little flack for this for some reason but I am with you. I sit a good part of my day here in my office chair thats honestly falling apart and its murder on my back. I need one that lasts longer and this chair looks like the ultimate. Going to have to go look at their line up and pick me up one.

    1. John Chow says:

@SeanSupplee You won’t be disappointed with a Herman Miller chair. They are expensive but well worth the money.

one would think twice before investing 2000 bucks for a chair .. then, after taking a closer look I guess this chair is special. Still, hold on to the 2 k for the moment ..

    1. John Chow says:

@aheneghana I thought more like a dozen times before pulling the trigger on the chair. I wish it was only twice! lol

  4. Property Marbella says:

Absolutely worth investing in, it is equally important to sit properly which to manage their body (exercise, eat right, etc.) if you have an office job.

@Property Marbella Guess even more so when reclining it in Marbella .. (daughter studied in Marbella) great place .. africasiaeuro

Beautiful Chair, but small bloggers like me can’t afford as of now.

    1. John Chow says:

@techiebug You can get one when you’re a big time blogger. It’s something to aim for. πŸ™‚

@John [email protected] this brings us back to basic issue : how to be a big time blogger I guess … πŸ™‚ ..

        1. John Chow says:

@[email protected] A lot of passion and love for what you’re doing is the key.

Pretty fancy chair–ooks like the most comfortable chair I’ve ever seen. Enjoy it, John, ’cause you deserve it.

    1. John Chow says:

@Pam Britton Thanks Pam. When I first posted photos of the chair on Facebook, the first comment was along time lines of “there are people starving in the world you spend $1,600 on a chair. Shame on you!”

My reply was “Buying a chair doesn’t make people starve. Not buy it makes people starve. Think about it.” πŸ™‚

      1. Pam Britton says:

@John Chow @Yeah, when I think about it, I know someone who spent $2,500 on a Tempur-Pedic memory foam bed. Bloggers can spend hours sitting in their office chairs on a computer and it’s just as important to care for the back while sitting as when lying down!

  7. fas says:

Looks ok, nothing spectacular but its the comfort that it offers really makes it stand apart.

    1. John Chow says:

@fas The chair does have a look all its own. It doesn’t look anything like a normal office chair or any other chair for that matter. But damn! it’s comfortable.

I have been working full time online for almost a year. I must say setting in front of a computer all day takes a toll on your body especially when your in a cheap chair like me. I may have to purchase one of these as a Christmas gift to myself.

    1. John Chow says:

@YaisaHagood Now that would be one nice Christmas gift! πŸ™‚

Neat looking chair, John! Congrats on your new purchase. I think I paid about $800 or so for my office chair. Definitely agree that if you are going to sit all day, it’s a very wise investment.
