The MGM Skylofts Bathroom

written by John Chow on January 8, 2007

How to make $593 in less than one hour

This is a video I did early today. I’m showing off the bathroom at the MGM Skylofts suite. Why only the bathroom? Just watch the video and you’ll understand. :)

John Chow, you are one lucky man. That is the nicest hotel room I have seen in my life! :O

Andreas Bard January 8, 2007 at 4:44 am

That is crazy!!

You mean the bathroom you use at home is not on par with the one at the hotel? I know a lot of builders in the Fairfield and Litchfield County areas of CT and this bathroom is below what they install in these parts!

Dave Jackson January 8, 2007 at 5:12 am

Beautiful, John! Thanks for the inspiration.

Brian January 8, 2007 at 5:18 am

John how much per night does the skyloft cost?

http://www.poshparlor.com

Robert January 8, 2007 at 5:25 am

Arr, I want a bathroom like that. How much is it per night for the room?

feverinlove January 8, 2007 at 5:39 am

Well I think it would be more functional if they placed the LCD in front of the bathtub.

Gdog January 8, 2007 at 5:58 am

Now that is pretty sweet bathroom. Nice video.

Nomar January 8, 2007 at 6:18 am

very VERY nice :)

ChrisB January 8, 2007 at 6:24 am

I do IT for an audio/video installation company and one of my bosses is putting in one of those LCD mirrors in his master bathroom.

The one he’s installing is made by a company called Seura (http://www.seura.com/). Pretty slick!

Tyler January 8, 2007 at 6:43 am

That is one sweet bathroom. How come the toliet doesn’t face the Plasma TV? Geesh did they forget that feature?

The dual ceiling shower heads is cool. One feature I’ve always wanted in a bathroom is a walk in shower with dual showerheads.

Can’t wait to see the rest of the suite! Though, I’m surprized being your first day there isn’t some sort of alcoholic beverage in your hand ;) It is Vegas right??

Max January 8, 2007 at 7:30 am

John- You should start selling that LCD in the mirror on TTZ!

Leftblank January 8, 2007 at 7:30 am

Man, that looks wonderful, especially watching TV while taking a bath seems perfect to me, it’s usually boring me. Multiple shower heads are nice as well, I’ve been in a hotel once where you had those placed all around you, it’s amazingly refreshing, too bad it’s a *little* expensive to get at home, not to mention the awful amounts of water it consumes ;)

Stew January 8, 2007 at 7:31 am

One day I’ll have a personal bathroom like that :)

So much for conserving water in the desert! (Yes, I’m jealous.)

bryan January 8, 2007 at 8:07 am

I see in an earlier comment someone wanted to know that cost of renting such a sweet suite hah. Well according to skylofts site you can spend anywhere from 790-2390 a night. I assume John is being charged somewhere in the neighborhood of 1290 but most of that might even being covered because of his status and the fact that he is uhhh Showing some nice content/advert for them.

umberto romano January 8, 2007 at 8:27 am

Have a good time in Vegas John, I hope to be at your kick off party next year.

Walter Vos January 8, 2007 at 8:27 am

I’m not sure if I saw what I thought I saw… Did that bathtub just fill up in a couple of seconds?

Raghu January 8, 2007 at 9:20 am

Yes its a nice bathroom that one but, come on guys – how much time do you folks spend in your bathroom afterall ?

Well I would simply say its good but slightly bordering on the unnecessary !

eclipse January 8, 2007 at 10:09 am

That bathroom is really nice, it actually bigger then my first apartment! (i could touch 2 opposing walls at the same time!) I like how he says “I don’t know how to change the channel yet” I guess John was to excited to figure out how to actually make it work, and just wanted to get the video out. On a side note john is that a cashmere sweater? Not many guys can pull off the cashmere sweater look. Have a great time there.

Steve January 8, 2007 at 10:33 am

You can fit a lot of TTZ groupies in that shower!

David Lithman January 8, 2007 at 11:22 am

You gotta love all the KA advertisements. John if you haven’t seen that show you have GOT to buy tickets now. It is amazing!

Jon Daniel January 8, 2007 at 11:31 am

Maybe something on that crazy remote can change the channel on the TV in the mirror. Hey, is there a way to set “mood” lighting in the bathroom. =D

derrich January 8, 2007 at 11:40 am

If you guys like that, you should come to The Parade of Homes in San Antonio. That stuff was in the houses 2 years ago. But I’m not taking anything away from your bathroom, John. It IS frikken sweet. My bathroom at home features a leaky pedastal sink and salmon-colored tile. Gotta love 1970s rehab houses. I do have a sweet TV though…just not in my bathroom. :D

My New Choice January 8, 2007 at 12:11 pm

While some may have seen nicer, I honestly think I could live in that bathroom. There are nicer TVs in that bathroom than I have in my house.

Big Cajun Man January 8, 2007 at 12:59 pm

When my blog grows up I want it to be just like John Chow Dot Com, so I can hang out in that bathroom!!!!

mubin January 8, 2007 at 1:00 pm

That just seems wrong…

Alex Becker January 8, 2007 at 1:15 pm

theres some pointless stuff in there. the tv inside the mirror is sweet but why do you need it when right next to it is a bigger tv? Everything else looks great. Hows the view?

Leftblank January 8, 2007 at 1:34 pm

Alex, how could you even doubt the use; you might spent as much as +/- 15 minutes a day looking in that mirror while shaving and brushing your teeth (if you’re in the room enough, which I doubt), that’s plenty of time to watch TV ;)

Little Money January 8, 2007 at 1:49 pm

You are living my dreams john… :D Damn that is some really baller stuff… Did that tub automatically fill up to the max in like 1 second? Freaking insane.

John Chow January 8, 2007 at 2:56 pm

The MGM Skylofts cost $2200 plus taxes per night during CES. This is for the 2 bedroom loft. I felt kida cheated this year. They picked me up at the airport in a normal limo, and not the Maybach.

The bathtub didn’t filled up in a second. It wa already full. What you saw was the bubbles firing up.

David – While I would love to see Ka, it doesn’t play during January.:( We’re going to see O instead.

Jon Daniel – Yes, the bathroom, and the entire loft, has mood light.

Alex – The Skyloft is all about excess. The suite has a total of 14 TV screens.

Andy January 8, 2007 at 3:03 pm

That is awesome

Alex Becker January 8, 2007 at 3:52 pm

LeftBlank – you said it yourself. Your in front of the mirror to look at yourself not a TV

John- I understand, and think that it look really cool, just don’t see a point.

Nick January 8, 2007 at 5:03 pm

The TV in the mirror is what did it for me…thats simply amazing. haha. Need to put one of those in my next house.

Hannes Johnson January 8, 2007 at 6:04 pm

Looking good… but John, is there a specific reason why you uploaded this video to Google? Didn’t you say in another post that you usually upload to YouTube?

Michael Kwan January 8, 2007 at 6:21 pm

No Maybach? For shame.

Hoo January 8, 2007 at 6:27 pm

I wonder how much it costs to create a personal bathroom like that in my apartment.

Alex Becker January 8, 2007 at 7:11 pm

Hoo do you have a large apartment? Because that looks like a huge bathroom

Michael Kwan January 8, 2007 at 9:02 pm

Yeah, Alex. That bathroom looks bigger than some condos here.

John Loch January 8, 2007 at 9:20 pm

OK now that’s definately excess. I’m sure I’ve seen it before on some docco, but its always impressive.

Lucky sod :D

Ed Lau January 9, 2007 at 1:21 am

No Maybach!? That’s just insulting…only peasants travel in regular limos.

David January 9, 2007 at 5:44 am

Impressive.

Matt January 9, 2007 at 12:44 pm

That LCD is amazing!!!! You have to make more sweet movies about those!!!

Max January 9, 2007 at 11:15 pm

This is pretty awesome… Vegas loves John Chow. I say you move there!

StrangeProgress January 10, 2007 at 4:18 am

Holy hell thats luxury as far as I’m concerned ;)

Nice score John.

Ha ha, classic comment from Ed, “only peasants travel in regular limos”!

Matt

Ryan January 10, 2007 at 6:54 am

I could really use a TV in my mirror. Ask to see how much it costs. :)

David Mackey January 13, 2007 at 9:16 pm

That place is crazy! Too bad there wasn’t an easy way to show us how the shower worked – I’ve never seen one like that before.

Jane January 14, 2007 at 12:38 pm

They know how to treat you there in Vegas. Although it may be a toss up between the MGM and what I’ve seen at Caesars. Caesars is by far the top of the Harrah’s Casinos.

Hsien Lei January 16, 2007 at 3:42 am

Do you even have time to take a bath with all the partying you’re doing? I must say, your posts sometimes come off as a bit obnoxious, but you’re cute in the video! :)

John Chow January 16, 2007 at 11:40 am

I took a swim in it, after I got completely soaked from that shower!

Kiltak January 22, 2007 at 11:10 am

While reading an article over at sfgate, a picture made me recall your video..

Haha, check this out:

http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/object/article?f=/c/a/2007/01/21/TRGRFNKVQF1.DTL&o=2&type=travel

might as well look at all the other pics that are included with the article. There’s some fairly impressive stuff in there.

Brian Walter February 20, 2007 at 12:07 pm

John,

Would you like pricing on Decorus Mirror TV’s?
