The Million Dollar Kitchen

written by John Chow on March 26th, 2006

There are many things one can spend a million dollars on. A kitchen isn’t the first thing to come to mind. However, for Rob Feenie, owner and executive chef of Lumiere, spending $1.2 million on a new kitchen for his flagship restaurant was a no brainer. What kind of kitchen do you get for a million smackers? One with a lot of stainless steel and a custom designed Bonnet stove from France.

I’m sure a real chef will appreciate the above picture. I will just appreciate dining at Lumiere. However, at the prices Lumiere charges, you won’t see me there every night.

    Hi John,
    Man I dont know.
I guess its a nice kitchen but it looks like the place is more suited for performing autopsies than cranking out foie gras. You sure thats not the local morgue?
Im kidding ofcourse but if I had a million to spend on a kitchen I think id go a little cozier.

  3. Whenever you’re in Vancouver.

This kitchen gives me some pointers as we are in the process of designing a new house. For a chef, the kitchen above is practical and not-so-frilly. However it still appears rather industrial. For me, while I love the stainless steel appearance, I need some type of ambience and warmth. The above is too “cold” for me.
