The New & Improved AuctionAds
The takeover of AuctionAds by MediaWhiz is starting to take effect. The big eBay affiliate has released a new “Web 2.0″ ad format.
Login to your AuctionAds account and go to the “Get Code” page. You will notice a sleek new ad design with multiple color schemes to choose from. AuctionAds believes the new creatives will increase click-through rates.
The new ads are certainly more colorful. However, they don’t conform to any standard Internet advertising banner size. It will be interesting to see how web publishers integrate the new units into their blogs. Those who don’t like the new AuctionAds Web 2.0 looks can continue to use the old banners.
I will be running AuctionAds next month as part of my continued drive to eliminate Google AdSense from this blog. While I am interested in finding out how the new AuctionAds ad units will perform, their non-standard sizing forces me to use the old banners. The old ads allow for a much higher level of customization. I have controls over the border, background, heading, description and link colors. The “New & Improved” format offers very limited customization.

Not much, but I didn’t know what AuctionAds until now. I only been blogging for only 3 weeks and constantly looking for ways to improve my blog and make more money.

Reply to this commentHey, Glad to see you are continuing your quest to eliminate the usage of AdSense. You may have explained it before…but why? AdSense is such an oldie but goodie. Why eliminate it altogether?
I wonder if this will end up being a trend among the mega bloggers - a natural response to Google’s somewhat oppressive dominance.

Adsense’s earning potential isn’t nearly as much as some of the others out there. Plus, Google gave John the cold shoulder, and now he can do the same. *=) He has enough influence to make a pretty big dent in their publisher arsenal.
Reply to this commentI’ve read before that google had a $1,000 monthly guaranteed revenue deal with an ad network. Was it Google Adsense or another? I don’t recall.

Looks cool, the main reason why I stopped using them was because I thought they were butt ugly, but the new design seems like something worth checking out.

Reply to this commentI want to see them fix the reporting issues and payment problems first. They issue payments to soon (before the monthly totals are in) and then never give you the amount they underpaid in your next check.

Did you know that some eBay affiliates make $100,000 per month? No. It’s not with auctionads. Do you know how they do it?

I think they are just adding fluff to cover up the major issues.
1. Their stats tracking is broken. You will have days with 0 clicks, or days with 1200 clicks and 0 revenue. Its just flakey.
2. They no longer pay out the same percentage they used too. They used to brag that they offered a 100% payout of revenue. Now, I believe they are keeping about 50% of the revenue.
Wouldn’t it be nice if they would at least make public the figure they are using? That way at least we’ll know. My revenue has dropped by 50% month over month (you are talking about someone who was doing over $5k/month in revenue through them, so not a small figure).
3. The payments that HMTKSteve do not really matter. Once the month of reporting is cut off, whatever revenue that comes in between the cutoff point and the payment point show up on your next check. True, you won’t see this figure in the stats engine.. but you can extrapolate it based on how much money your stats generate and how much the payment was actually for. Ie. my checks always exceeded my stats by at least a few $$ per month.
The crux of the problem is that whatever you were making off auction ads previously has been cut in half, with no “REAL” explanation as to why, and more over, they are trying to cover it up by offering fluff and not addressing the real issue.
Reply to this commentI don’t get that “extra” money, it does not show up in my next check. My check consists of whatever that month totals, anything from previous months never gets paid to me.
Their tracking is super flaky. I have days that say zero clicks but $35 in revenue. Yes, my income has been cut in half since the buyout while impressions and clicks has grown.
Reply to this commentApparently they fixed the reporting issue and the revenue showing up when you have no clicks is probally from a person who clicked your ad one die and didnt buy something until the next, its an affiliate program so your clicks wont line up with your earnings all the time.
Also I didnt hear about the 50% cut, if thats true no matter what tier they get me in itd be better go the cj/ebay route.
Reply to this commentThat’s a shame. Having read some of the other comments I was considering signing up (Yet another bloody affiliate network to keep an eye on). I’d be better off putting a bit of effort into my CJ/Ebay adverts by the looks of it.

Reply to this commentI have an AuctionAd account, but the creatives are not of good quality, they look blurred, they are an odd size definitely not the standard 125×125 or 250×300 etc. I suppose the blurred image will encourage readers to click hoping to get a better look?

Reply to this commentI agree - neither versions are great. The most worrying part is that they now refuse to state how much percentage revenue share they’re keeping.
That along with all the other negative comments on here and maybe people will concentrate on other forms of advertising instead?

If you haven’t figured it out that the digitalpoint paranoid banster pulled a pump and dump on media whiz. By promising publishers 5 bux to sign up and never paying. Then ducking out when there were to many publishers to for it to support. I dropped them from all but 1 of my sites because their reporting in shaky at best. I don’t remember who wrote it but they are paying about 50%. It makes no sense when CJ will pay you 55% to start.
Reply to this commentAs for the money I make from that site it’s about 150-200 a month. Where as I made about 300-400 before the reporting “issues” started. It’s cool that they fixed the site and I like how monthly total shows now instead of weekly, but why put a condom on if you are going to run off and jack it in the bathroom. Simply put fix the reporting issues pay more than CJ and it would be a good program.
where did you hear that they are only paying 50%? The site still says “AuctionAds is committed to paying out a minimum of 100% of eBay commission revenue”

And no I wasn’t referring to media whiz getting its threads closed. Almost any thread about how bad AA is get closed and deleted. SO in review that would be simple math used to figure out what percent you are getting. Or you could wait for the company that waited a month to tell its publishers that it bought the company to give you a figure.

The thing I noticed so far is you can only have white backgrounds for the new improved ads..Doesn’t help if you want to blend them with a different color background, but I might be missing a setting for that on AuctionAds…

Reply to this commentI’ve been with AA for about a month now and saw many click with zero dollars. All of a sudden Tuesday night I see dollar amounts next to many of my days. What’s up with that??? Then I see that a made $50 on Tuesday and when I check back last night the same night only showed $16. Would that not be conidered stealing or something? EXTREMELY FISHY!!!!
Reply to this commentLet me add one more thing. In case people are not familiar with the E-Bay affiliate scheme it works like this….E-Bay’s main affiliate provider is CJ. My STRONG guess is AA has an account with CJ just like anyone else. They’re probably a super user which allows them to have websites underneath them. They do this with all of our help so they can hit E-Bays numbers to reach the top grossing numbers $35/new sign-up and 70% of revenue. AA creates a dummy ID for their users so they can track where the clicks are coming from. This is all being done still under ONE CJ ID assoicated with AA. Basically AA sits back while everyone else does their work for them. Isn’t it a beautiful thing! It’s such an easy concept, that’s why their website is so basic. And another thing, if you sign-up directly with CJ you get to see what items were bought through your program. I don’t think AA alows this. I’m not hating, just saying that what AA is doing really is not an ellaborate concept. Just using people to make themselves money. Hey, it’s done all the time, right.
Reply to this commentI said goodbye to AuctionAds several weeks ago. The fact that there were outages off and on for weeks was way too frustrating for me.
I may try them out again, but I don’t like the fact that they couldn’t get their act together that quickly after the takeover.
Reply to this commentIn my honest opinion, there is not enough room to read the description about the product they are trying to sell.
Example:
“Automatic Money” with a picture of a semi-naked girl. Although I bet it gets a lot of clicks, I would think something that said “Automatic money maker with adsense tips” would be more specific, and end in more final bids. Just my 2 cents.
Reply to this commentI’ve found a few programs using non-standard banners or missing some nice ones (Amazon don’t have *any* 125×125 in any of the different types of links - and they have a lot). I’m not going to rearrange my site, so they just miss out!
