The Next Internet Millionaire Episode 1

written by John Chow on August 23rd, 2007

Joel Comm sent me an email a few days ago saying episode 1 of his new Internet based reality show The Next Internet Millionaire is available for viewing. The show is hosted by Joe and features 12 contestants from different backgrounds trying to complete for the $25,000 grand prize and a chance to do a joint venture with Joel to make a million bucks or more. As reality TV goes, this one is worth watching because it’s about making money online.

For an Internet TV based product, the show has amazing production quality. I’ve only watched the opening introduction so far. I didn’t realize that the show is an hour long (51 min and 4 seconds to be exact). I’m going to watch it with Sarah in front of the home theater PC in full screen mode.

I am rooting for Alisande Chan from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia. It’ll be really cool to have a fellow BC resident win this thing. Episode 2 of the show will be released on August 27. I wonder if my name will ever come up in any of the episodes?

  1. What’s this? An INTELLIGENT reality show?

    Unpossible.

  2. It was boring. Just because it’s about webmasters it doesn’t mean it should be so boring.

    • I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought this. Was way too slow for me, I’m sure it will do well though out of the people who think it’s going to make them millionaires as well.

  3. Franklin

Wow! Thanks for pointing this out John. This is really pretty cool!

  4. I saw this over at problogger a while back and thought the first episode was interesting. It would definitely be sweet if you got a mention John.

  5. Hey John,
I’ve blogged and watched about the Next Internet Millionaire… Its really interesting to see how internet marketers put under pressure. I know Mark Joyner personally his a great guy and willing to help anyone who ask him a question.

btw.. I love your blog man!

    Carlo

  6. the quality of the video is extremely good. its like you cant tell its an internet based show. pretty good. its actually entertaining too.

  7. I am rooting for the guy from Tampa. I live in Tampa.

  8. Im not too excited about another reality show, but it is interesting to see TV done online especially with a show that has people from costa rica to ontario.

    • Well, its not one of the Paris Hilton shows thats for sure. This show is yet something more interested and is more kinda targeting the internet marketers. Still once again, a good show to watch if you want to learn something new about internet marketing.

    • Agree with you here – another reality show isn’t what I’m crying out for. Not surprised about the diversity of people on the show though – people will do anything for 5 minutes of fame on the box!

What this does illustrate though is that the online TV medium seems to be growing and judging by this effort the quality is now getting pretty good.

I would have thought John would be acting as a consultant on this type of show – surely!?!?

  9. Awesome idea for a show and especially interesting for us… all about making money online!

  10. Didn’t I tell you LONG AGO John, that all the Dot Com people were out here ;)

  11. Great production value… but will it have staying power? The writing and acting will have to be sustainable.
    Interesting idea.

    The Sage

  12. Looks interesting, to bad I have to look out for my bandwidth

    Simon

  13. Hey John,

Being a proud BC’er you should throw up some colorful Canadian money in the new header image!

  14. Positive: Pretty good production value given the circumstances.
    Negative: INSANELY Boooooorrrriiinnngg.
I love all things related to the internet, but this shoe did absolutely nothing to hook me or spark my interest.

  15. There was something in the UK called Tycoon, it wasn’t about online money but is was a similar idea and well worth watching. The whole series is available online. Link below (if you’re allowed links here?)

  16. I wonder if my name will ever come up in any of the episodes?

    John,
You are vain and evil too!

  17. As reality TV goes, this one is worth watching because it’s about making money online.

    LOL

Is about anything, but NOT quite about making money online, my dear JC. But is quite ENTERTAINMENT.

Ops, I forgot I`m nobody and my opinion does not count.
    Well, I have great news.
Not only me say that. Half of commenters on “NIM” site say the same. Also on Eric Holmlund blog – which you lack to even mention is COAUTHOR with Joell Comm.

    More even :
title=”Eric Holmlund’s blog, see the 39-th comment”>2) Not enough educational content – My primary objective for the show is entertainment, and education is secondary. If the primary goal was to educate, then the show would not be needed. We could have just done a teacher series.

    says the coauthor ..

Anyway, how about take a random guy/girl outthere and let him/her see the show then ask what he/she learn about making money online. Or maybe just re-write that quoted above paragraph AFTER you see the movie ..

    Errare humanum est, John.

My 2 cents (that makes six, 39,994 more to go)

  18. Guk

What’s this video about? They don’t teach you anything…

  19. Dot_Commie

Anything with Joel Comm’s involvement, is slightly less honorable than a used car lot. I’d put my money with the used car salesman before Joel, because the odds are he’ll be wearing nicer pants.

  20. I would venture to guess that you will get a shout out sooner or later!

  21. hahah “I am very single”.
Was that just a love add that reaches world wide to find a partner, completely for free?

Hahah that made me laugh my ass of!

  22. wow this is going to be my new favorite show.. next to The Riches on FX…

  23. I haven’t finished it yet, but from what I’ve seen I like it quite a bit. They seem to be picking on the card carrying republican a lot though (both in terms of how it’s been edited and the other contestants on the show).
