Three Hour Photo Session For BC Business

written by John Chow on May 7th, 2007

The photographer for BC Business Magazine was over this morning to take my picture for an upcoming issue. They wanted to project an image that blogging can be done anywhere and at anytime, even when you’re in your bathrobe. Luckily, I just happen to have a nice Versante bathrobe laying around.

The photo session lasted over three hours as photographer Nick Westover tried to capture that “blogging in jammies” look. We took some shots of me sitting at my workstation and with my notebook by the stairs. Even Sally got in on some of the photos.

I didn’t get a chance to see any of the photos so I have no idea what they look like. However, I’m sure it’ll look better than this.

Yes, you really can blog in your bathrobe. Look for me in the June (or July) issue of BC Business magazine.

  2. 3 hours ? Last time I got photographed for a newspaper article it lasted 3 min and they even managed to print my name wrong

  3. Congrats on the BC Business. More exposure (like you needed it)

    Nice pic!

  4. Webmastern.se

Nice work! Not the first time you are in the newspaper. Hope everything goes well with your blog. But, please post some more money making tips! Looking forward to that, since I´m visiting your blog everyday.

  5. 3 hours.. didn’t you have to go to the bathroom?

  6. Argh! That piccy is scary. ;)

The REALLY evil John Chow. You twister psychopath!

  7.
lol your pictures are always great.

  8. Ali

I blog in my jammies too, while eating, while holding my baby etc…

Dude, that is one scary picture.

  9. That pic looks hilari-o-u-s  . Hey, how come you have to desktop. Looks like one is used for blogging and the other is for COUNTING UP YOUR MONEY, huh?

  10. I’m perilously close to having to explain why I’m laughing out loud when I’m not supposed to be reading blogs at work! Your smile made me laugh out loud, you look like you just got caught with your hand where it shouldn’t be!

  11. How do you manage two LCD with one mouse only?
    Great photo…. !

we do pretty much the same thing, and yet you make thousands! I wish I had a calculator by my workstation all the time, but alas I dont need it yet.

  13. John, I noticed your rubik’s cube! How long does it take you to solve it? I can usually do it in about a minute and a half.. although I’m a little out of shape now.

  14. Omg looks like the Mrs. caught you doing something you shouldn’t have been doing ;)

And what is this about someone asking how do you use 1 mouse with 2 monitors? Doesn’t anyone else use dual monitors? It’s the only way to go!

  15. What do you need baby wipes next to your computer for?

  16. Nick is supposed to show up at my place around 6 to take my shots for the article. I’m not big on having my picture taken so this should be interesting. I sure hope he doesn’t stick around for 3 hours, that’s awfully long for a photographer to be kicking around.

Look forward to reading the article, hope it’s good!

  20. Wow. THREE hours of photography? That’s very long. I’m sure you look better than that.

  21. dimitri

john what kind of chair is that? I’m looking for a new office chair with neck support

  22. Is that like a super huge mousemat?

  23. Wow…great to see your big smile man! Remember to post the magazine to let us see.(malaysia dont have BC Business magazine)

  24. John

Please more photos of your home office!!!!

    Bye

  25. Bob

Hey John, Why do you have 2 LCD screens? Does both share the same cpu? How do you utilize them?

    • Yes, computers can operate with multiple monitors. With my computer’s Windows XP operating system, it only took a few keystrokes and mouse movements to set things up.

And according to the studies that have been done on it, adding an extra monitor can increase your productivity by 20 to 30 percent. BTW, nice setup John.

      • I use 2 screens in my home office. Productivity is far better with this setup then just a single screen, especially when trying to move data between a spreadsheet and email for example. You can copy from 1 screen to the second with out having to minimise and maximise the 2 windows.

  26. LOL! You look like such a doofus.

  27. Will be waiting for the June/July BC Business magazine, especially for those awesome pics!!!

  28. hah i have to agree with ed ..you look like a doofus :D

  29. Wet ones and a stuffed animal — great decor you got there, John! I swear, your pictures just get better and better each time. You should tell the guys at BC Business to use this rather candid picture instead.

  30. i like your dual monitor setup… hope to get my own soon.

as soon as i MAKE SOME MONEY WITH JOHN CHOW

  31. lol…interesting JC, very interesting.

A nice, clean setup you have there too.

  32. That’s how I look also, working at home :)

  33. the first thing I noticed is your funny smile John. haha. and you are a gadget freak. can’t blame you anyway since you’re now earning 11k$ in a month… or even more.

  34. Am I the only one that spotted the Mac Mini . . the APPLE Mac Mini on the left side of the table? JOHN CHOW USES A MAC! that’s my next blog post! hahahaha . . . keep livin it up john!

  35. Actually John, I prefer to blog naked. Jammies are old-school! Suppose that wouldn’t look to hot in the local business paper though….

  36. I’ve blogged in my towel plenty of times, haha!

gotta get myself a robe, put this as number 8 tips to be a successful blogger john! haha

  37. hello, you got teeth like a horse

  38. I don’t understand, John. I’ve been doing EVERYTHING you’ve said in your posts, and I’ve followed all your advice, and I even got a massage chair and set up two LCD monitors, purchased a wireless keyboard and mouse, set up my desk with speakers and a remote control, put a rubik’s cube and a Blackberry and a can of diet Coke and a container of WetOnes at my workstation, found a toy dog to put on top of my tower, positioned a small globe between my monitors, placed miscellaneous high-tech devices all around my desk, bought a condo with beige walls and set up my office facing the window, dressed in a white bathrobe and bought ChonJow.com, paid for expensive surgery to turn myself Chinese, AND I’M STILL NOT JOHN CHOW. What is with this? I thought if I copied every single thing you did I’d have discovered the amazing secrets to becoming rich and famous and successful and wildly popular just by sitting on my computer all day. Instead, I’m just another piss-poor, unoriginal wannabe blogger faking his way through the web with carpal tunnel syndrome and too many ads on his site.

  39. Haha! you funny guy!
    nice moniters tho..
    what sizes are they?

  40. John-
Please don’t open your kimono, except for money making tips.

  41. I’ve worked in front of the PC in much less clothing LOL I guess all that creativity and ingenuity come from very good ventilation, eh.

  42. fark.. where am i going to get myself a copy of this mag? I’ll have to wait til John makes it to Time

  43. I like your blogging room… blogging space… blogging workspace, blogging zone… how you call that? workstation. Very nice

  44. Yeah, for a dot com mogul, your workspace still looks double mod — modern yet modest. The more I see this picture, the more I’m starting to like that chair; what kind is it and where did you get it? Maybe you could throw in some furniture along with the video card package you’re giving away, John LOL I know, I’m pushing it.

  45. Lovin’ the blog and it’s extremely resourceful. Congrats, by the way!

  46. What’s your keyboard?

I’m looking for a black, useful and comfortable USB keyboard.

  47. Even Al Gore keeps a messy desk in his office. As long as he doesn’t ruin the rest of the world, I guess.
