Three Hour Photo Session For BC Business

written by John Chow on May 7, 2007

uopm

The photographer for BC Business Magazine was over this morning to take my picture for an upcoming issue. They wanted to project an image that blogging can be done anywhere and at anytime, even when you’re in your bathrobe. Luckily, I just happen to have a nice Versante bathrobe laying around.

The photo session lasted over three hours as photographer Nick Westover tried to capture that “blogging in jammies” look. We took some shots of me sitting at my workstation and with my notebook by the stairs. Even Sally got in on some of the photos.

I didn’t get a chance to see any of the photos so I have no idea what they look like. However, I’m sure it’ll look better than this.

Yes, you really can blog in your bathrobe. Look for me in the June (or July) issue of BC Business magazine.

I’m perilously close to having to explain why I’m laughing out loud when I’m not supposed to be reading blogs at work! Your smile made me laugh out loud, you look like you just got caught with your hand where it shouldn’t be!

Deelip May 7, 2007 at 1:34 pm

How do you manage two LCD with one mouse only?
Great photo…. !

Dot info domain name May 7, 2007 at 2:04 pm

i’m surprised that someone don’t know how to manage this, but here you go:
just drag one window from one lcd to another with one mouse.

it’s really simple

John, I noticed your rubik’s cube! How long does it take you to solve it? I can usually do it in about a minute and a half.. although I’m a little out of shape now.

Omg looks like the Mrs. caught you doing something you shouldn’t have been doing ;)

And what is this about someone asking how do you use 1 mouse with 2 monitors? Doesn’t anyone else use dual monitors? It’s the only way to go!

Natron May 7, 2007 at 2:04 pm

What do you need baby wipes next to your computer for?

John Chow May 7, 2007 at 3:33 pm

They’re great for cleaning the LCDs.

Soultrance May 7, 2007 at 2:05 pm

Nick is supposed to show up at my place around 6 to take my shots for the article. I’m not big on having my picture taken so this should be interesting. I sure hope he doesn’t stick around for 3 hours, that’s awfully long for a photographer to be kicking around.

Look forward to reading the article, hope it’s good!

Moulinneuf May 7, 2007 at 9:49 pm

Ever tried it as computer chair ?

I don’t have the buying power that you do
so I must limit my simple dreams to what I can eventually reach/afford

They have been going down in price a wee bit lately since newer model came out.

Witch one do you have ?

wait for the issue of BC mag and you’ll surely see a lot.

Bob May 7, 2007 at 5:59 pm

Hey John, Why do you have 2 LCD screens? Does both share the same cpu? How do you utilize them?

Aaron Cook May 7, 2007 at 9:05 pm

Yes, computers can operate with multiple monitors. With my computer’s Windows XP operating system, it only took a few keystrokes and mouse movements to set things up.

And according to the studies that have been done on it, adding an extra monitor can increase your productivity by 20 to 30 percent. BTW, nice setup John.

Matthew May 8, 2007 at 7:44 am

I use 2 screens in my home office. Productivity is far better with this setup then just a single screen, especially when trying to move data between a spreadsheet and email for example. You can copy from 1 screen to the second with out having to minimise and maximise the 2 windows.

Ed Lau May 7, 2007 at 6:13 pm

LOL! You look like such a doofus.

Wolf Stone May 7, 2007 at 6:16 pm

Will be waiting for the June/July BC Business magazine, especially for those awesome pics!!!

Law of Attraction May 7, 2007 at 6:59 pm

hah i have to agree with ed ..you look like a doofus :D

Wet ones and a stuffed animal — great decor you got there, John! I swear, your pictures just get better and better each time. You should tell the guys at BC Business to use this rather candid picture instead.

John Chow May 8, 2007 at 8:34 am

That’s not a Mac Mini. That’s a ADS Tech hard drive enclosure. It just looks like a Mac Mini.

Gerard McGarry May 8, 2007 at 12:06 am

Actually John, I prefer to blog naked. Jammies are old-school! Suppose that wouldn’t look to hot in the local business paper though….

uncle sha May 8, 2007 at 3:09 am

I’ve blogged in my towel plenty of times, haha!

gotta get myself a robe, put this as number 8 tips to be a successful blogger john! haha

rozzy May 8, 2007 at 5:31 am

hello, you got teeth like a horse

Gary Lee May 9, 2007 at 5:45 am

and you look like a shadow of an ugly person . . . hahahaha

Kevan May 8, 2007 at 8:17 am

I don’t understand, John. I’ve been doing EVERYTHING you’ve said in your posts, and I’ve followed all your advice, and I even got a massage chair and set up two LCD monitors, purchased a wireless keyboard and mouse, set up my desk with speakers and a remote control, put a rubik’s cube and a Blackberry and a can of diet Coke and a container of WetOnes at my workstation, found a toy dog to put on top of my tower, positioned a small globe between my monitors, placed miscellaneous high-tech devices all around my desk, bought a condo with beige walls and set up my office facing the window, dressed in a white bathrobe and bought ChonJow.com, paid for expensive surgery to turn myself Chinese, AND I’M STILL NOT JOHN CHOW. What is with this? I thought if I copied every single thing you did I’d have discovered the amazing secrets to becoming rich and famous and successful and wildly popular just by sitting on my computer all day. Instead, I’m just another piss-poor, unoriginal wannabe blogger faking his way through the web with carpal tunnel syndrome and too many ads on his site.

SeanS May 8, 2007 at 9:01 am

Haha! you funny guy!
nice moniters tho..
what sizes are they?

BrilliancesDotCom May 9, 2007 at 5:49 am

TeamTutorials May 9, 2007 at 12:47 pm

great workspace

Pablo Rosales May 9, 2007 at 5:03 pm

I like your blogging room… blogging space… blogging workspace, blogging zone… how you call that? workstation. Very nice

Cheap Custom Content May 10, 2007 at 2:13 am

Yeah, for a dot com mogul, your workspace still looks double mod — modern yet modest. The more I see this picture, the more I’m starting to like that chair; what kind is it and where did you get it? Maybe you could throw in some furniture along with the video card package you’re giving away, John LOL I know, I’m pushing it.

Ask Aunt B May 10, 2007 at 1:39 pm

Lovin’ the blog and it’s extremely resourceful. Congrats, by the way!

I’m looking for a black, useful and comfortable USB keyboard.

Chicago 2016 May 24, 2007 at 8:46 pm

Man, you keep your desk quite neat.

Chicago 2016 May 24, 2007 at 8:47 pm

Even Al Gore keeps a messy desk in his office. As long as he doesn’t ruin the rest of the world, I guess.
