Time For Another Contest!

written by John Chow on February 5, 2007

The Ultimate Online Profit Model

OK! It’s time to hold another contest and give away some more free stuff! This time I have a really cool prize but I’m not going to tell you what it is. You’ll have to watch the video to find out.

To enter this contest, all you have to do is to join the John Chow dot Com MyBlogLog community. 169 members have already joined the community without the incentive of a contest. That was enough for MyBlogLog to feature this blog as one of the six Hot Communities. As a reward to the early members, they will all received an extra entry into the draw.

MyBlogLog is actually a very cool service. It has helped me put a name to the face of my readers and it also helps to increase traffic because readers visit the community member’s website. I have noticed a nice increase in traffic since setting this up.

The contest deadline is this Friday so if you haven’t join the blog’s MyBlogLog community, do so now! On Friday, I will draw a name from all the entries and that person will win this prize! Good luck!

Can anyone even play that video? It’s screwed up and doesn’t even show up in the post.

John Chow February 5, 2007 at 10:09 pm

The Google upload seem to have messed up. It only plays when you go to Google Video. I am uploading to YouTube right now.

Stephen February 5, 2007 at 10:14 pm

OMG! You’ve turned into Rodney Reynolds from 3DGameMan!

…at least you didn’t say that drive kicked ass… :P

Stephen February 5, 2007 at 10:17 pm

Your MyBlogLog is in Espanol! Mouse over your avatar!

Michael Kwan February 5, 2007 at 11:26 pm

Si. Espanol, senor.

Okay, that’s about as far as my Spanish goes.

Ryan February 6, 2007 at 6:44 am

This is hilarious. John Chow dot com, the largest Spanish speaking community on MyBlogLog… or is it just the root of all evil trying to attrack the Spanish speaking community?!

Saman Sadeghi February 6, 2007 at 7:40 am

It’s not Spanish, it’s Italian!

Michael Kwan February 6, 2007 at 3:09 pm

Wow, don’t I feel ignorant.

Jeff February 6, 2007 at 12:40 am

I find YouTube to be the most reliable.. I tried using the self-embeding plugin (whatever it was called.. FLV embed??) and it had problems with IE, and I wasn’t the only one. There were lots of complaints on hw it did nt work well on ie

Nate W. February 5, 2007 at 10:55 pm

John Chow, great video! I hope I win!

baron February 5, 2007 at 11:06 pm

You are a marketing guru. I hope I have a good chance this time!

Jane May February 5, 2007 at 11:18 pm

Nice! I get an extra entry! I was wondering when the next contest was going to take place. I like the MBL inclusion…it’s sure to increase the numbers there as it did on Technorati.

Jeff February 6, 2007 at 11:13 am

Eh. Looks liek I visited him often enough, I’m in the list too so I get 2 inclusions!

Michael Kwan February 5, 2007 at 11:28 pm

Added you to MyBlogLog community thing.

Check it out, I have an avatar now too —->

Leftblank February 5, 2007 at 11:55 pm

Nicely done John, will we also have a higher chance next time? ;)

Ali February 6, 2007 at 12:10 am

Do you ship international?

Jeff February 6, 2007 at 12:55 am

Haha that’s a tall order but who knows?

John Chow February 6, 2007 at 9:09 am

Yes I will ship anywhere in the world. The drive weigh 2 oz. and doesn’t cost much to ship.

Ali February 6, 2007 at 9:34 am

Ok, I joined :)

Michael Kwan February 6, 2007 at 3:10 pm

If he wasn’t going to ship, you weren’t going to join?

Damien Passehl February 6, 2007 at 12:17 am

This is one of the nice things about reading the blogs of the bigger guys, a chance to win a pretty freaking cool flash drive. Thanks for the chance John.

Soultrance February 6, 2007 at 1:02 am

One of those would sure be handy.

I’m going to have to get some gear to give away on my blog, seems like a fantastic way to get people more involved in your site. Great way to building community and spread the world.

Allen.H February 6, 2007 at 1:36 am

Man, I knew someone will force me to get into this MyBlogLog thingy eventually, lol.

Nate W. February 6, 2007 at 1:38 am

John, I am curious… how do you randomly pick someone from the community to win? Do you enter all of the names into an Excel databae and use the random function? Do you write everyones name on a piece of paper and pull them out of a bag?

John Chow February 6, 2007 at 9:10 am

I enter all the name, put it in a box and pull out a name. I may even do the draw as a video!

Leif Hearne February 6, 2007 at 2:26 am

You know what the first thing to go through my head was? A lego set that actually used this to store operating instructions for the lego toy actions.

Technix 2010 anyone?

Gareth February 6, 2007 at 2:51 am

I would of thought a dot com mogul would be using a service like revver that pays you every time someone watches the video?

In any case I’ve joined. Send that lego baby to down under!

Ryan February 6, 2007 at 6:45 am

Revver is far from reliable.

Michael Kwan February 6, 2007 at 3:11 pm

I agree, Revver is not reliable. He could try that AdBrite thing he talked about some time back. Or maybe metacafe?

Gdog February 6, 2007 at 4:20 am

I really hope I win…thanks John!

Aris February 6, 2007 at 5:00 am

John, I thought those who joined prior to the contest should get extra chance, since they have joined even without any incentive. :-) But hey, at least we could heard your voice now.

John Chow February 6, 2007 at 9:12 am

Those who joined the community before the contest got an extra entry.

Kalle February 6, 2007 at 5:03 am

Thanks for the contest. I started reading your blog yesterday and I really liked it, so I joined your MyBlogLog community, and the next day a contest pops up were I have a bigger chance to win then the “newcommers”. Very nice :) Hope I win, even though I might not deserve it as much as your old readers.

Marc February 6, 2007 at 5:50 am

I’d love to John, but if I do, you’ll see my face but lose my name since my screen name is unavailable.

My New Choice February 6, 2007 at 5:59 am

Somehow I think that if I were to win this, it would end up in my son’s lego buckets and I would never see it again.

Already was a member of your community so it will be nice to get that extra chance.

Nomar February 6, 2007 at 7:45 am

lol, just keep it out of your sons hands ;)

My New Choice February 6, 2007 at 9:20 am

I’d have to keep it at work because his radar would likely find it anywhere in the house. :)

He is preparing for a career with Lego, which I think would be really cool actually.

Marc February 6, 2007 at 9:30 am

To that problem, the answer is simple. Put it in your own bucket of Legos first :)

My New Choice February 6, 2007 at 9:00 pm

Lol, I actually had a huge bucket of legos that my parents still had from when I was a kid. A few years back they gave all of those to my son.

Dave February 6, 2007 at 6:48 am

I’m in :)

Kalle February 6, 2007 at 7:12 am

Thanks John! I started reading your blog yesterday and I really liked it, so I joined your MyBlogLog community and the day after a competition were I have bigger chance of winning then the “newcommers” appear. How B-E-A-utiful :D

Kalle :)

Nick Witkoski February 6, 2007 at 7:13 am

I want in on it.

Nils February 6, 2007 at 7:23 am

nice.. me want

Nomar February 6, 2007 at 7:44 am

That is a cool price. Hope I can sign up before friday.. very busy with work ( i have free from school )

Dragos Roua February 6, 2007 at 9:21 am

Nice idea!

Out of curiosity, setting up the whole thing: chosing the stick, buying it, writing the blog post, making the movie and posting it to YouTube, this entire very serious marketing operation, was how much time? You seem to move so fast, but I know there is a lot and a LOT of work behind the curtain.

And I think it would be a good example for other bloggers about what blog marketing and viral social networks can be, if done correctly.

Good luck! (And to mee, to, I like LEGO’s ;-) )

Jason February 6, 2007 at 11:43 am

I can’t believe you have that idiot Jon Waraas linked on your blog and even accepts his advertising money.

How about you read his recent post where he talks about cheating sites toplists using proxies.

Vikas February 6, 2007 at 12:32 pm

Count me in :)

Kiltak February 6, 2007 at 12:40 pm

After John Chow the Google Whore, we have, John Chow the MyBlogLog Whore! ;)

Michael Kwan February 6, 2007 at 3:12 pm

And it doesn’t stop there. He’s also the AGLOCO whore, TLA whore, ….

Steven Stark February 6, 2007 at 1:56 pm

Well I actually just signed up for your community today, then noticed this contest! I guess I entered it by accident. lol. I hope I win by accident too.

Hannes Johnson February 6, 2007 at 3:12 pm

Oh, yeah! Double entry yet again.

Cool thumb drive. It would be sweet to win one of those :)

Matt Huggins February 6, 2007 at 5:54 pm

Whatup double entry!!
