Top 10 Beginners Tips for New WordPress Users

written by John Chow on January 11, 2011

Big Idea Mastermind

WPBeginner is a WordPress resource site which was founded by Syed Balkhi in July 2009. The main goal of this site is to provide quality tips, tricks, hacks, and other resources for the WordPress community. Because most other WordPress sites are maintained by developers, there was a lack of focus on beginners. At WPBeginner, Syed explains each tutorial thoroughly, so users of all levels can understand it.

Like me, Syed is at Affiliate Summit West covering the show. Since we’re kind working the show together, I decided to do a quick interview asking Syed for his top 10 beginners WordPress tips. In addition to the tips, Syed also gave out some traffic and monetization tips. The video is well worth watching and I think you’ll get great value out of it. Enjoy the video.

i always believe that if you want to earn good money and fame as well than target new bie and you will get good return.

Make Money Online February 7, 2011 at 12:43 pm

Yes, that is right. Mainly because newbies does not know what they should expect and everything is new to them. So even if you say the most basic things they will still be verry thankful for it. Also they tend to share your website a lot more, at least that’s my experience. :P

Web Marketing Tips January 12, 2011 at 7:05 am

@abhik

yes trial and error method is good but applicable only when you have enough time.

ibnujusup February 20, 2011 at 5:48 pm

Penny Bid Auction Sites January 11, 2011 at 12:21 pm

You ought to check out BuySell ads before you spend a lot of money. Not such a good value there.

Web Marketing Tips January 12, 2011 at 4:10 am

Juan January 11, 2011 at 1:30 pm

Hi John, my apologies for asking you this here but I was hoping that it will caught your attention sooner.

See, the issue is that I have been reading your articles about credit cards, and you always point out that the benefit of it is the money you get back plus the prizes. I do agree is a considerable advantage of a responsible use of a credit card.

The funny thing I find is that you have failed to mention one of the most important benefits of a credit card , and that is credibility given to you by your credit score if you ,as you have stated several times , are a financially responsible person, wich eventually gives you the great benefit of a decent credit story.

The credit story allows you to have more trust when you are trying for example rent a house, (you even detailed the benefits of it in one of your posts, so I know you are aware of how important it is) , aplying for a job, making a reservation in a hotel or for a plane ticket (wich you sort of mentioned) and as evidence of your financial state when dealing with tramits sush as a passport. I could keep going on but I think you understand what I mean at this point, so I won´t make it longer.

What I would like to know is your point of view in the issue, because I´m still kind of new to finances, and maybe while researching about the topic I made a misunderstandig and the credit history isn´t precisely what I think it is, so please, tell me if I´m wrong or if I´m right. And sorry if I may be asking too much, but in the case I´m on the right track with the credit story I would then aprecciate your point of why you haven´t mentioned it before, it concerns me because maybe it still isn´t that important as I tought.

Thank you for your time, I will looking forward for your answer.

Does WPBeginner make a hefty portion of their revenue from adsense? I noticed adsense on the site and I just was wondering if contextual links and banners are better converting or if adsense still does well on those type of “Tip/Howto” sites.

d3so January 11, 2011 at 6:08 pm

adsense still does well on how to sites but you have the potential to make more with optimized affiliate ads.

Abhik January 11, 2011 at 9:37 pm

I guess adsense works everywhere, but affiliate ads works better.

Hidden Object Games January 11, 2011 at 11:52 pm

Yes, They are using Adsense, Buysellads and direct ads sells to monetize the site.

I hope it helps

Tampa Web Design January 12, 2011 at 12:02 pm

Thanks, the reason I ask is become I have several Niche Social Media sites I built and am wondering if its worth it to promote them for the purpose of adsense income. For instance, one site is askrecording.com a question/answer site for the audio industry. I just haven’t had time to promote it and I am not sure if its worth it.

Make Money Online February 7, 2011 at 12:41 pm

I keep hearing about the W3 cache plugin everywhere. I suppose I will have to check it out and implement/tweak it before my site gets too much traffic. The only thing I don’t really like is to have too many plugins because it gets hard to keep everything updated and working plus it slows everything down on the site. Thanks for the wideo though, I will visit the wpbeginner site as well to see if it got anything to offer. :P
