Top Ways To Drive Traffic To Your Blog
Traffic is the foundation of making money online. Without traffic, nothing happens. What are the top ways to drive traffic to your blog? I discussed that very topic in my third interview on The Lab with Leo Laporte.
This interview was taped back in July but aired last week. It took this long to finally find the episode and put it on YouTube. Thanks to Greg Morgan for doing all the leg work to get this done. If you compare this interview to my first interview with Leo, you’ll see I’m a lot more relaxed. I must be getting use to the limelight.
Enjoy the video on building traffic. I hope it helps you. Please note: the video is grayed out for the first five seconds. I don’t know why, but it clears up after that.

The view is a bit screwed John, i see gray all over.
Reply to this commentHmmm, fixed itself a few moments in
Reply to this commentGreat video, but that guy Leo really likes to finish your sentences, doesn’t he!
I didn’t know you had a free ebook either! And now I see it’s at the top of every page I feel silly!
Reply to this commentI actually thing that’s part of how he does his shows. It’s not so much finishes John’s sentences as much as it is him just getting into the interview.
Reply to this commentIt was just a bit annoying (and rude). I wanted to hear what John had to say and he kept butting in!! Grrrr..
Reply to this commentWhy did Leo say he didn’t know John had an Ebook, that made him look really stupid. John spoke about the book on his last show. Doh!
Reply to this commentP.S. John you looked really great in this interview. You were definitely more confident this time around.
Do you have time to do an interview for my blog?
Reply to this commentYeah, I noticed that too! I reckon John did pretty well not to let that throw him off too much.
Reply to this commentfor me it gets fixed after 10 seconds.
John, what kind of traffic do you get from this appearances?
Reply to this commentFixed for me after a few seconds also. I am interested in knowing what kind of traffic the TV appearence brings.
Reply to this commentI was on Welsh TV with my blog about a year ago, my traffic doubled for about a week.
Admittedly I don’t get anywhere near as many hits as this blog, but I was happy with it
Reply to this commentWhat were you on TV for? Was it a fairly major program?
I’ve had similar reports from other people who have been interviewed about “the blogosphere”.
Reply to this commentIt must of been a lot of Leo mentioned it crashed his servers… maybe similar to a Digg?
Reply to this commentOr maybe they just DoS’d him to make it look like they sent him traffic ;-D
Reply to this commentYes, I’d be very interested in what kind of traffic you got as well.
Reply to this commentOh okey, it got fixed with the second view. Now i can see it better.
Reply to this commentYou could always cut out the grey part, as its before you get on.
Reply to this commentSame here
Reply to this commentIt’s nice to see you on TV again. Great tips!
Reply to this commentNice tips there John - but the best tip - get on TV like that.
Reply to this commentI saw it on TV as I watch the show every night, but it help to have a copy on YouTube as well. Good points! Thanks John.
Reply to this commentForgive me if this comment is repeating someone else, what’s with the “Boats, Babes and Cars” headline?
Reply to this commentI’m just trying different title tags.
Reply to this commentJohn forget about what others say … you don’t have to write about making money even if you have the title Make Money Online, i don’t know how much traffic that keyword brings you daily, but if it does, than it is a waste of time to change the title.
Apart that, the sarcastic title Boats Babes etc…it might confuse many as to what is this blog about.
Reply to this commentYeah, but… that would probably translate into more comments. I mean, would you rather read about “make money online” or “boats, babes and cars”? Wait. Don’t answer that!
Reply to this commentIf something works just great the way it is..why change it? Wait, don’t answer that.
Reply to this commentChicks always get my vote, no matter how really interesting making money online is.
Reply to this commentI saw that before I wondered whether he’d changed it or I just never noticed it before. Anyway, wher are these boats and babes?!
Reply to this commentHaha, amazing the things we notice and think are a big deal. On a ‘normal’ blog nobody would even a notice a change in the title tag let alone comment on it
Reply to this commentI’d never heard John’s voice before. I thought he’d sound more like Fox newscastor for some reason.
Reply to this commentHaha, I thought the same.
Reply to this commentNice interview, but you don’t tell us to much in it…anyway…I’m gonna read you’re book
Reply to this commentYep, the book is better.
Reply to this commentMan John,
Reply to this commentYou are the King! Great Interview and bet you did get alot of traffic from that one!
Darin
That interviewer was annoying, like dude shut up and let him finish!
Reply to this commentHe called John Chow dot Com small…the nerve!
Reply to this commentJohnChow.com is small… relative to other sites…
Reply to this commentBut, of course, relative to our sites…
Reply to this commentHaha!
Reply to this commentVery cool vid.
Is “The lab” available as an online-streaming version?
Leo is the BEST, after John I mean.
Reply to this commentI don’t really know him either - only through John’s blog. Guess he’s only popular in North America.
Reply to this commentWow. That’s surprising.
Reply to this commentThis is the first time I’ve heard of him too. I don’t watch much TV.
Reply to this commentI didn’t know who he was, and I watch a lot of TV. I guess he’s not on in every country, so it’s a bit harsh suggesting we’re all cave men
Reply to this commentNot much new info, but informative nonetheless.
Reply to this commentHi John!
)
Reply to this commenthehe you still seemed a bit nervous, but the interview was just fine. I’ve been studying and learnig a lot from your experience for quite some time now, and am thinking about following in your footsteps. I’ll probably have some questions when I start my own little project, hope you’ll be interested in helping me a bit
Greetings from Croatia (you should consider taking a trip here, since you like traveling
wow this look like its a real tv show too! almost like a cnn special! great job john!
Reply to this commentThat IS a real TV show
Reply to this commentcool video, thanks
Reply to this commentnice job John, you looked a little nervous at first but looked more comfortable towards the middle and end.
Reply to this commentGreat video. Do you know how much traffic it sends roughly?
Reply to this commentI have been a big fan of Leo for a long time. I use to watch a show called “Screen savers” back on tech tv, I think it was called. They canceled the channel and I never herd anything about the cast again. I’m amazed to find him on your site John, thank you for posting the interview and happy to see Leo still has a job and a T.V. show.
Reply to this comment
Nice interview.
Reply to this commentThat was a really nice video. I’m not familiar with the Lab though.
Reply to this commentgreat tips, john! thanks for sharing the video.
Reply to this commentJohn,

Reply to this commentJohn, you’re sou cool.
Reply to this commentGreat video John. I definitely need to work on getting more traffic… I have none!
Reply to this commentcool~~~
Reply to this commentThat is awesome, so how much traffic did that show drive in?
Reply to this commentYou’re right, without traffic nothing happens.. now I really need to work on that!
Reply to this commentDon’t we all
Reply to this commentEverything what your beams generates I deal John
Reply to this commentAwesome John, that was pretty sweet man, funny looking back at the old blog!

Reply to this commentStill not seeing any babes around here.
Reply to this commentJohn you ROCK!
This is my first comment here on http://www.johnchow.com, but I have read your sites from the year 1999. I will definitly use your ideas with my fress blog. My blog is in finnish so that narrows the traffic to finnish people only but I think your advices should work on us too
I’m also new to blogging and this blog is the first English blog I’m viewing daily or even more because there are so much to read from the archives. I also follow the links from the commentators because there are many intresting readers blogs to be discovered so keep on commenting on http://www.johnchow.com to get visitors !
Reply to this commentThanks John Chow! Although i am not even 1% or ever 0.1% compared to your blog, but i guess your tips are very useful. Thanks once again!
Reply to this commentAmazing how it works! I started last month and I see a long and a hard way to go with much much much to do. Keep on blogging!
Reply to this commentDude, if you gonna appear on TV, talk to the camera, not to the Host.
All the show you are talking to leo, and the viewer can only see the side of your face. If you look at the camera, the viewer will see your face, and feel as though you are talking to him, making the whole show more personal.
Reply to this commentUm…it’s pretty customary to talk to the interviewer.
I’ve never seen anyone NOT talk to the interviewer. They only stare directly at the camera if they want to goof off or make a special point.
Reply to this commentJohn wasn’t presenting the show, he was being interviewed. When somebody asks you a question you look them in the face when you reply. That’s just manners TV or not.
Reply to this commentThat is amazing i like that tip you made with driving traffic with new products review sent to others to return you back a link and generate traffic.
Reply to this commentThe way we are receiving a lot of traffic is due to organizing a contest as your popular evil contest lol.
Reply to this commentTake a look and decide if you want to be part of it….we decided to use one important ammount of our marketing budget to it.
Kisses!
Great interview John. The competition idea is definitely something that I can do.
Reply to this commentnice to see you on TV again
http://www.technobuzz.net/
Reply to this commentwell, that was pretty much the basics you talked about.
Reply to this commentThe info he gave us is nothing new, everyone know about it. Just that most don’t take action.
There are also some others one he didn’t mention. the purpose of this vid was only to get him traffic, useless video for anyone like me who been blogging over a month.
Reply to this commentTraffic is realy most important… More traffic more money. NO traffic no money… Very simple formula
Reply to this commentRepeat traffic is even better
Reply to this commenti did not learn anything on how to build traffic from this interview. i was left wanting more.
Reply to this commentIt was pretty much the same o same o, but if it ain’t broke……
Reply to this commentWow that a great interview. I enjoyed watching it
Reply to this commentThanks for the information! Just following the bread crumbs!
Reply to this commentGreat interview! I need traffic badly… I have none! (yet)
