Twitter Question of The Day

written by John Chow on November 17, 2008

How one lazy bum made $176,697.50

I’m adding a new feature to the blog call Twitter question of the day. Well, I doubt it will happen everyday but you never know. Basically, I will be asking a question on Twitter everyday (or whatever frequency I feel like) and posting the replies on the blog.

The Twitter Question of The Day will stick mostly to the blogging and making money online. However, since this blog is call The Miscellaneous Ramblings of a Dot Com Mogul, the question could be about anything. Creating the Twitter Question of the Day will serve four purposes.

  1. I get a bunch of interesting answers.
  2. I create more content for the blog
  3. I help promote the twitter account of my followers.
  4. I get more people to follow me because of reason number three. :twisted:

Twitter Question of the Day – Do You Eat Out Everyday?

Today’s Twitter Question of the Day ask how often you eat out. I asked the question during lunch at Kam Do restaurant because every time I tweet about my lunch, I get questions asking if I ever eat at home. I figure I can’t be the only person eating all the time so the tweet went out. Here are the replies.

@foxladi (Britt Malka) says:
@JohnChowDotCom I don’t, John. I have a husband who can cook ;-)

@bicycletouring (Darren Alff) says:
@JohnChowDotCom I can’t even remember the last time I went out to eat. Restaurants kind of scare me.

@akishore (Aseem Kishore) says:
@JohnChowDotCom Eat out everyday? Including all three meals? Better make sure you visit a heart specialist more often.

@photodailynews (Jim Fitzsimmons) says:
@JohnChowDotCom I used to eat out every day. But that was when I was single. And I find eating out gets old. Easy, but old.

@andyparkinson (Andy Parkinson) says:
@JohnChowDotCom I do! Who has time to cook :)

@brynyoungblut (Bryn Youngblut) says:
@JohnChowDotCom your probably the only person who takes pictures of what they eat every day lol

@MichaelYurechko (Michael Yurechko) says:
@JohnChowDotCom I wish I could afford it, but I eat out a few times a week. Probably 2-4 meals/week.

@USDman (USDman) says:
@JohnChowDotCom I’m a home skillet kinda dude` but when I do eat out its all about steaks and seafood~

@jephperro (Jeff Perreault) says:
@JohnChowDotCom absolutely everyday. It would get boring to have the same everyday.

@lookielookies (lookielookies) says:
@JohnChowDotCom I don’t eat out, but go for take-away or home-delivery every day :-D

@CoryOBrien (Cory O’Brien) says:
@JohnChowDotCom Used to, but it gets expensive. Now I try to bring a lunch at least 2-3 times per week. Plus, saves time waiting in line.

@gourmeted (Joy) says:
@JohnChowDotCom I eat out everyday, but not every meal. :p

@dannydang (Danny Dang) says:
@JohnChowDotCom Pretty much eat out at least 6 days/week

@lordmatt (Lord Matt) says:
@JohnChowDotCom you are the only one… (not)

@GregEh (Greg Andrews) says:
@JohnChowDotCom I think that luxury is exclusive to the "dot com lifestyle" :P mmm, homemade ham sandwich.

@chrispund (chrispund) says:
@JohnChowDotCom I usually eat out for lunch so that I can get out of the office, but I do try to bring lunch if I remember to pack it!

@Spartz (Bas) says:
@JohnChowDotCom I used to when I lived in Bulgaria. Only for a few months though, then I started to miss cooking.

@duanestorey (Duane Storey) says:
@JohnChowDotCom I pretty much eat lunch out everyday..

@Timothy_Jones (Tim Jones) says:
@JohnChowDotCom I come close, especially because we travel so much – without a kitchen you tend to eat out. :)

@etherjammer (Chris A.) says:
@JohnChowDotCom, I wish that I could afford to eat out every day!

If you have an idea for a Twitter question of the day, please post it in the comments. I want to thank Shoemoney for writing the script that allows me to post these Twitter replies to my blog.

Is the script available for download somewhere or just given to his friends?

John Chow November 17, 2008 at 5:16 pm

It was more like I asked Shoe what he use to put Twitter replies on his blog and he said “Let me code something up for you.” He did it in five minutes. Pretty amazing. It’s not available for download.

Ryan McLean November 17, 2008 at 5:47 pm

Shoe is the man that he can just code that in 5 minutes. Wish I had that skill

ZK@Internet Marketing Blog November 17, 2008 at 7:07 pm

Shoe can code too , thats pretty cool Shoecody :)

Affiliate Confession November 17, 2008 at 8:26 pm

Yea, I wish I could code as well. Lots of cool stuff you can do like the twitter blog thingy.

mohawkdonkeydotcom November 17, 2008 at 9:38 pm

I’ve been trying to add a php script to my pages all day. Only to find out that my entire code was wrong. I don’t like to code. I’m gonna give up. I’ll just let the pros do it.

Seo Creations November 19, 2008 at 1:54 am

Anyone can code if he knows coding :)

TYCP Entertainment Magazine November 19, 2008 at 12:19 am

He did that in 5 minutes? Damn.

Ben Pei November 21, 2008 at 10:43 pm

Aww this is such a cool skill to have..

SmallBizBee November 17, 2008 at 5:07 pm

I love using Twitter like this on my blog…I’ve been doing what I call “Twitter Fest Friday” for about a month now, and the variety and insightful responses I get to my questions are great!

Study Babes November 18, 2008 at 11:40 am

TYCP Entertainment Magazine November 19, 2008 at 12:20 am

Li Weng November 21, 2008 at 3:48 am

Yeah you do have a dirty mind.

Ben Pei November 21, 2008 at 10:47 pm

Eating out is good! But eating home is healthier..

Ryan McLean November 17, 2008 at 5:35 pm

Twitter is so popular these days. I will need to start getting on twitter so I can post answers to your questions. Sounds like a fun task John

BusinessX November 17, 2008 at 5:37 pm

Question for twitter: What is the greatest thing have you done TODAY to promote your blog/site?

Rics November 17, 2008 at 5:58 pm

I’m always thinking in diferent ways to use Twitter with my blog. This is a good one. Other one I like is to call for votes on Twitter for some subject. The use of #tags can do miracles!!!! :D

Play Games Win Prizes November 17, 2008 at 6:04 pm

Talk about the “lifestyle” lol. I can never see myself eating out every single day. I just don’t want to die early.

Li Weng November 21, 2008 at 3:49 am

I ate out every day for about 2 months in Shanghai. It was fine. I actually lost some weight I think from all the walking around and sight-seeing.

Whateverebay November 17, 2008 at 6:58 pm

I like the tool… Would like too know if and when it would be released. To answer the question of the day. Once a Month with the Kids and Twice a Month for me with friends :)

John Chow November 17, 2008 at 7:45 pm

I’m sure someone will eventually make a Wordpress plugin that does this.

Ben Pei November 21, 2008 at 10:49 pm

Can’t wait for this plugin John..

Nicholas Chase November 17, 2008 at 7:18 pm

I don’t eat out even on the weekends, my web income is $20.00, can anybody tell me how to become successful at this?

The sheer number of hours I am spending is extremely tiring, and frustrating!

Respectfully, Tired…………..http://donotreadthisblogunless.blogspot.com/

Mr Javo November 17, 2008 at 7:18 pm

That’s a good idea. You can get interesting answers there, and also they will be very different… Great idea to complement your posts!

John Sullivan@POTPOLITICS™ November 17, 2008 at 7:19 pm

I saw that earlier but to keep it real> I found Twitter to be filled with a bunch of snob ass jerks. I do like that routine of going to the same place to eat.
90 % of the people on Twitter are legends in their own mind and if I had to suck up to them and play nice to get some traffic I’d jump off a bridge first ;)
Other then that it’s all Good :)
Checks in the mail ;)

Carol November 17, 2008 at 7:19 pm

My husband just retired Aug 1st, so we will probably seldom eat out anymore. I do most of the cooking, and he does all the yard work. We save our money to do traveling to see family and friends. Fair trade off in my opinion. :)

Affiliate Confession November 17, 2008 at 8:28 pm

I hate doing dishes so I eat out about 3 to 4 times a week.

Chris Jacobson November 17, 2008 at 8:55 pm

How are you embedding the tweets? Any special plugin?

John Chow November 17, 2008 at 9:19 pm

You can chalk it up to Shoemoney’s super coding ninja skills.

Chris Jacobson November 17, 2008 at 9:53 pm

Care to share? :)

Seo Creations November 17, 2008 at 10:35 pm

Yea, I wish I could code as well but don’t have much knowledge about coding

SLR November 17, 2008 at 11:03 pm

Only a balanced diet of ramen noodles at home for me. :)

German Romance November 17, 2008 at 11:40 pm

Great idea. Keep the good ideas rolling mate!

DTanner November 17, 2008 at 11:54 pm

Recession got the best of me. I have started eating at home and cooking. Those days of power lunches and $12 spinach salads are gone for a long long time, this is a lean mean America. Tighten your belt and lose those pounds.

Li Weng November 21, 2008 at 3:50 am

Important to cut costs, but more important to increase revenue :)

Make money online November 18, 2008 at 5:17 am

lol
thats sounds interesting and funny too :D

Steven-Sanders November 18, 2008 at 7:25 am

So you’ve successfully avoided answering the question about whether you eat out everyday or not. :)

Karl Hadwen November 18, 2008 at 8:30 am

Practise makes perfect with coding :)

Shawn November 18, 2008 at 8:41 am

About time your search engine rankings improved, John. I was wondering what happened to you. And, where are the Google ads at…lol

Dax Desai November 18, 2008 at 8:44 am

Hope you put out your Twitter question of the day today. Twitter is down “for database maintenance.” That typically means something went down or they are restoring their database.

OnlineGodfather November 18, 2008 at 8:53 am

Cmon John why are you hiding that code :D

MoneyBlog November 18, 2008 at 9:32 am

……sounds interesting .Twitter is so popular these days.

titan November 18, 2008 at 11:16 am

looks like everyone use twitter. Hoho..

andy November 18, 2008 at 7:00 pm

I try not to eat out a lot for health purposes. I usually eat out around 2-5 meals per week.

BusinessX November 19, 2008 at 9:14 am

I guess everything is relative, because 2-5 times a week is a lot for me.

jhaylogs November 19, 2008 at 8:39 pm

Li Weng November 21, 2008 at 2:14 am

You come up with some cool ideas. Must be working extremely well. I just need to remember to follow you now.

Li Weng November 21, 2008 at 2:31 am

oh yeah, and I don’t eat out much at all.

Miss G December 1, 2008 at 3:58 pm

Nope, but if I did, I’d probably be on my death bed, after eating all that unhealthy food. I can’t afford to eat out everyday either, especially with the economy and everything being so expensive nowadays! I’d rather have my own home cooked meals anyway. Nothin’ like a fresh home cooked meal!
