Third Tuesday

Sarah and I just got back from the monthly Third Tuesday Meetup at the Republic nightclub in downtown Vancouver. Third Tuesday is a meet up of Vancouver marketing and technology professionals. The event is a great way to relax and meet some very interesting and like minded people. If you’ve read my blog for any length of time, then you know that I am big into networking and finding like minded people to associate with. After all, you are who you hang out with.

The speaker for the night was Stephen Jagger, co-founder of Ubertor.com and Reachd.com. His topic was tools to help reduce costs and grow your business. Stephen’s companies are virtual businesses with no bricks and mortar offices to speak off. He shared the tools he used which allowed him to run his business from anywhere in the world. Tris Hussey has the live blog below.

Yes, Twitter Can Get You Free Drinks

During the Stehpen’s presentation I made a tweet asking for someone to buy me a drink. I figured since I have over 7,000 Twitter followers, some of them must be at Third Tuesday and would love to buy me a drink. Sure enough, someone did. Thanks to Shane Gibson for the Smirnoff Ice. After that success, I just started twittering for drinks all night long. It was totally awesome. I didn’t have to pay for a single drink during the entire evening! I maybe the first person to ever tweeted for a drink inside a nightclub and got it. Another John Chow first! :D

I'm wondering if everyone that got you a drink thought they would get a linkback or a mention on here :D

Wow !! What a wonderful time...

Twittering for drinks !! Amazing !!

I have never see any party like that in my city. I wish someday they will do some in here.

John, you live a life in its full measure, more you make it full of joy yourself. That's great!.

How many drinks did you get? Twitter is so much winded in our life.

Well John. I contacted you for something important. Did you receive the message (e-mail)?

Ha, Twittering for drinks. What can't this social networking site be used for?!

Wow, John you really live a blessed life!

"I figured since I have over 7,000 Twitter followers, some of them must be at Third Tuesday and would love to buy me a drink."

Wow do you think highly of yourself.

Well, I am John Chow. :D

No body shots? Oh yeah, you're married :(

John, you seem to attend a lot of meet ups why the hell are there so many there and I cant find a single one here!

Because Vancouver is a mecca of networking and your part of the world is really boring? :)

John, you should start a "Tweet Me Dinner Contest." The lucky winner could pick your brain over a meal. :)

whoops! sorry for the double post, i didn't think it went though.

John, maybe you should start a "Tweet Me Dinner" contest--the lucky winner would get to spend a couple hours picking your brain over a meal. :)

wow tweeting for drinks. sounds like fun though. seems like your always at an event for something. didn't know they had that much fun in canada.

Haha... that's totally hilarious. Way to go mate.

Forget dot com mogul, start calling you the man of firsts.

I laughed every time I saw a tweet come from you asking for a drink. Smirinoff and Twitter were your best friends last night haha.

@bookerx3

That's awesome but... Smirnoff Ice? ;)

Maybe it was for his wife?

Getting free drinks from tweets. That's probably the first of its kind. Well I guess 2 things made this possible. John Chow and networking in Twitter.

Ha thats awesome. Twittering for things and hopefully someone around you is reading..good plan!

Awesome story John! Twitter is marvellous, isn't it? :)

i guess you can make money (indirectly) via twitter lol. interesting concept with some good results!

Looks like Twitter can also indirectly give one a headache.

LOL why did you say this?

I can feel your power master Jedi.. but the dark side is very strong on you.. :P

I can feel your power master Jedi.. :P

I really like the idea that you can tweet and people will buy you a drink - twitter is a powerful tool and very useful. I wish I had something similar to your monthly marketing gathering close to me it sounds like a good way to meet like minded people and share.

I'll invite you to a couple of drinks too, if you come to Madrid (Spain)

I've avoided Twitter so far...but free drinks? Maybe it's worth building a following after all.

Thats so funny, I went to school with Steve at the BCIT Venture program years ago....
Could barely use a computer, you should ask him about his first online company
"ignition"

Steve is an awesome, grounded guy and a real asset to the online business community...

well.....that's good news.....free drink

It's amazing how you get everything for free!

ahahaha!! I read all your tweets :P You are the first person to do all the wicked things on Twitter.. lol. Whats the next plan? Maybe tweet and ask if someone could sponsor you dinner? Or maybe a FlipMino HD to give away :P This sounds really crazy.. =) Cheers!!

i think he's already giving away a flip mino

wow i cant believe you got free drinks via tweeting for one on twitter. that's awesome!

Goes to show all you have to do is give a tweet

LOL! !! way to go john with the free drinks - I've gotta start using twitter on my mobile lol

You guys extract the best out of Twitter, something I have not done yet.

Am I going to be the only person that says the girl in the black dress on the right is freaking hot? Guess so. John Chow, why didnt' you go tweet to her?

Exactly my thoughts. People behind the counter are much hotter than the ones in front of. However, the ones in front of the counter are definitely feeling hot.

This is kinda crazy huh.. But its really fun I guess.
