Two New Text Link Advertisers

written by John Chow on January 17th, 2007

It seems my commercial break worked! Barely a day has passed and already I got two more text link sales! This is what happens when you under promise and over deliver. I like to welcome the new advertisers:

Local Search Watch

Local Search Watch is a new blog focusing on getting local search results and local pay per click marketing. The blog is run by Frank Travisano, the CEO Impaxion, Inc., an internet services company offering website design and search marketing services since 2002. He is also the President of Local Breeze, Inc., a new local startup that is creating a series of local portals throughout the country.

Local Search Watch looks like an interesting blog. However, there are only five posts on it at the moment, with the last update on Jan. 15th. I hope Mr. Travisano updates it more. Otherwise, he could be wasting his advertising money.

Must See Funny Videos!

FunnyReign.com is the buyer of the must see funny videos link. As you can image from the text description, the site shows funny videos. FunnyReign.com is among the first users of the new AdBrite InVideo Ads format. I was approved to be part of the private beta for InVideo Ads. I should follow up on that. I don’t post too many videos but the ones I do posts would get viewed a thousand times and it would be interesting to see how much it makes.

The InVideo ads are not that intrusive at all. Here’s a sample video from FunnyReign.com.

Congrats on the new advertisers! I was hoping the sample video would make me laugh, but maybe next one. ;) All the same, wish you much success.

yea, I think you should go for it. At first, i dont know if its just me, but the ad jumped in at the top of the screen and it was a little distracting but it dissappeared, and having that little on at the end is not problem from a viewers standpoint.

Nice job marketing. ;)

The video is crazy–what was that guy thinking? Natural selection at its finest.

As for the AdBrite ad, the system isn’t flawless yet as at various points it stops in the video (or it did the first time I viewed it) and I had to hit play again. I assume this isn’t the desired result, because if it was I don’t know who would watch many AdBrite powered ads. I also wish they’d put the ad up top, as there might be something I want to see at the end of the video there.

Very nice marketing ‘trick’ John, both sites look nice, though a bit small to advertise on such a big website. For me sadly the video isn’t working at the moment, networking trouble…

The video works now, pretty funny, the ads don’t seem to be anything near content related though, I’m not quite interested in watches on a tech blog.

Pretty soon your blog will be nothing but adds and contests to lure traffic.

John - LOL! Good one. :) But even then, you can learn a lesson from it. He he.

Congrats on the two new advertisers. It’s always nice to reap the rewards of a good deed and it seems giving your other advertisers their recognition has paid off.

maybe some day I can reach a higher PR, have more visitors and page views, and actually be eligible for the higher paying advertisers.

John - I always had this impression you will land a couple of more advertisers with this approach and there you did. That’s good !

Somehow I agree with Wesley’s comment that the actual ‘content’ on your blog is probably going down - Watch out…

man, that truck came soooo close to bouncing back onto that guy. That would have been a nice ending, and if the guys on the moped or whatever where to hit an oncoming car :P

haha nice video. Is that like a wanabe Jackass or what? Well maybe just something dumb anyway.

I was looking at the AdBrite video section and the idea is nice. The ads are not in your face and are hidden once you’ve played the movie. The embedded video took a bit to load on the page before it displayed the player but eh, what can I do with dedicated Dual T1 lines eh?

Hey John, I have a quick question - how much traffic does TTZ get monthly?

I wonder if having that “Time For A Commercial Break” post had anything to do with getting a couple new advertisers… :)

Andy - It’s in the millions.

Michael - You think it did? I just sold another text link. :) I’m now sold out!

I visit http://www.johnchow.com a few times every day.
What makes me get puzzled is why the site’s google toolbar page rank is only 2. Am I wrong?

It depends on the Google server you’re on at the time. Most servers have me at 4, but a few still have me at 2.

Michael Kwan said on January 17th, 2007 at 6:50 pm

Nick, I think that he mentioned somewhere that it’s $200 for the month (but there’s a $100 coupon some place).

Nick Witkoski said on January 17th, 2007 at 7:14 pm

so, if there was a $100 coupon the price would be $100 and TLA would take $50 meaning john would make $500 alone from those TLAs on the side from his blog a month…damn im jealous, ill take $500 period

John Chow said on January 17th, 2007 at 7:25 pm

It would mean I get $100, TLA gets nothing. They’re the one offering the coupon, not me.

Nick Witkoski said on January 17th, 2007 at 7:27 pm

so instead of $500 per month, you are making $1000 with the 10 spots you have filled up…simply amazing. I cant wait until you display your january earnings for the blog.

Hi John,

I have to admit that I been a *ghost* reader for the past month or so and am compelled to comment at last. I love the blog you have. I have not really cared too much about SEO and monetizing in the past but am interested to learn more especially with the launch of a new tech blog that I am part of. To us, monetizing (for profit) is not really too high on our priorities (yet) as we believe it will come hand in hand with good content — although we have some google ads on blog. You can count me in as a regular reader. Keep up the good work and great advice!

Mark

That is great john !! TLA is going to be your # 1 this month i guess

John Chow said on January 17th, 2007 at 11:52 pm

No, I don’t think it will be #1. TLA prorates the cost of the link on a 30 day basis. Because those new links didn’t start on the 1st, they won’t earn me the full $100. Next month they will however.

I might be willing to spend some money on a TLA but I’d like to know how much traffic those links bring in first.

Judging by the referrals I’ve received by just commenting here and being on the top list, quite a lot I think, if your site is interesting enough of course ;)
