Nice plugin, makes life a bit easier hehe
I agree, nothing worse than taking down the blog to do an upgrade “hoping” that everything will work out.
Great job Technie Buzz!
I would be leary of this plugin - upgrading is a complicated tasks (although they’ve made it very easy) - what’s “Maintenance Mode”?
Hi Saman,
While upgrading the site the plugin puts the site in maintenance mode so that users cannot access the site, as they may see some errors while the files are being updated.
Once the files are updated the maintenance mode automatically goes away.

I must say that upgrading my wordpress is something I haven’t thought about recently.
Thanks for the reminder john, and great ressource.

Greetings from France John.
I have been waiting since forever for a plugin like this! Great post!
I want to know how well it works. I would be afride that it would mess things up. Has anyone here tryed it yet?
Personally, I would still upgrade the fashion way but I do like how it backs up all your stuff before it upgrades.
I agree - it’s a great idea but I’d rather have control over a major task like upgrading.
I try it out already….Cant works at final step……
Waste my time to reactivate my plugins
But lucky the plugin help me backup all the old files….
Plug in doesn’t even finish step 1 without error.
Thanks for the heads up!
nice!! this plugin is badass!
thanks john
excellent plugin,
I also recommend checking out
blogbackuponline.com. I have been using for a month, works awesome.
Personally I use the Fantastico option from my host. Today was the first time I tried it. Everything worked fine except the dashboard, it was displaying elements form my homepage. The fix was easy though. Took me a total of 5 minutes.
Will try it out……
That’s wonderful! I compltely messed up my blog a few months ago, trying to upgrade myself.. how sad. Glad this plugin does the dirty work!
Has anyone actually tested this.. I’ve got a crap load of plugins, and have been nervous about upgrading.
I too would be interested in seeing if anybody else actually tested this out and their experience
I feel the same way! Sounds kind of too good to be true. I rather upgrade the old fashioned way too. But if this plugin will make my life easier…
Yeah I think this plugin will be a godsend for a lot of wordpress bloggers. I wouldn’t be surprised if wordpress incoporate this or something similar into future versions of wordpress.
Sounds like it’s something to look into. Could be a great tool for a lot of wordpress bloggers out there.
Yay!!
I doubt it picks out plugin code or any extra code I’ve throwin in for that matter when it does the update. That would truly be impressive, but its wishful thinking when it comes to updating anything. Anyone who REALLY keeps up with their blog probably has a mass of plugins.
Can anyone help me…….
After i upgrade by using this plugin my blog is not working and i try to upload back all the backup data but does work………..
DOESN”T
Wow, this is awesome. I’m one of those people that hates moving server, upgrading, etc.
Lol, as opposed to the people who love to upgrade and move servers, etc?
Speaking of moving servers… anyone know some good dedicated server providers?
This is awesome! I will be trying it right away, and I really hope it works as described. I have like 15 wordpress sites online, and updating them to the latest version is a nightmare!
Wow,
That’s just the plugin I’ve been looking for!
oh i need to do this
i stumbled this page too. i am just so stumble happy lately! thanks, John!
Who can help me
That really sucks. HOw much info do you have in limbo?
Hi John,
Thanks for the heads up on the plugin. There are a few bugs which users have reported to me and I have fixed most of them.
The plugin may not work on servers which have ftp and web users who are different, but I have overhauled the problem and will release a new version with lots of bug fixes in next couple of days.
If anyone have any problem please leave a comment or email me at the given address on the plugin page.
Thanks
Keith
Thanks, I’ll add to my site
Thats one of the good things that dreamhost does. I can upgrade with one click.
Hi Bob Cobb,
The dreamhost does not upgrade but only allows to install a version with one click. After that you have to do manual upgrades.
[...] download the plug-in, go here. You can thank John Chow for letting me know about [...]
Wow, everybody is excited O_O
Well it’s actualy a nice plugin, but I don’t think that it’s so cool:
You don’t know what will the next upgrade change in your blog so it can make troubles.
And usualy new upgrades have a lot of bugs and problems at the first steps, so that can make troubles too.
And it’s not so hard to upgrade a blog by yourself.
Just replacing new files with the old ones.
Hi Mybloggo
My blog got messed up too. I fixed it by downloading the latest WordPress files - http://wordpress.org/latest.zip - manually, unzipping and uploading and then by going to mydomain/wp-admin/upgrade.php
Hope this can help you.
Hi BrittMalka,
Can you tell me what problems you faced that your blog got messed up, any help would be great to fix the bugs.
Hi Keith
Yes, but actually a lot happened.
At first, I wanted to use the automatic method, but it got stuck at step 1. So I created a folder called “wpau-backup” in the root, at CHMOD’ed to 777. This got me pass the first step, but I got stuck again later.
So I tried the manuel route, but all the time there were files that couldn’t be processed. I kept changing CHMOD for those files to 777, until I reached the end, but then I got a lot of errors, mostly from line 40 in plugin.php, if I remember right. I couldn’t get pass them, so I upgraded the way I normally would.
Well, I didn’t save any of the error messages. If you like, I can go through them again, as I still miss to upgrade one of my (many) blogs. Please write me directly in that case. You can reach me at britt ad malka dot biz.
Hi Britt,
Thanks for the update. Those issues have fixed in the version I have right now, will release it shortly.
Thanks for your feedback. It will definitely help make this plugin more stable and better.
Keith
[...] Chow has found a Wordpress plugin that will upgrade you to the newest version of Wordpress. I will be installing this plugin as I always push upgrading Wordpress to the side and it never [...]
I’m going to wait one or two more days to try this, after reading Keith’s comment … thanks, Keith.
And thanks too, John for exposing this valuable tool to the world. A lot of the readers here are going to miss the whole point, I fear. Is John dedicated to making money? Oh you bet he is, as he should be … but along the way he provides _value_ and let the money follow. What has anyone out there, moaning about their income and “why nobody clicks” done to provide value today?
IS it that important to upgrade wordpress engine from time to time? I though it is good enuf if you stick to a wordpress. I scare to upgrade my wordpress because it is very sensitive.
Definitely downloading this plugin.
The plugin looks promising, definitely going to download.
Definitely nice plugin
This is definitely a great tip for wordpress users!
