Valentine’s Day Dinner at Oak Grill Newport Beach

Oak Grill is a true California original. Located inside the Island Hotel in Newport Beach, California, the dining destination appeals to the appetite and the aesthetic with an atmosphere of inviting elegance that extends from the light-filled interiors to the lush outdoor deck. It was an ideal restaurant for a Valentine’s Day dinner. And since it was located inside a 5-start hotel, well… 🙂

Head Chef Marc Johnson is a Southern California native. He creates comfort food dishes with an imaginative twist. Combining flavors from around the globe as well as the American South, the food is locally sourced. Chef Marc uses classic techniques to create items that play on current trends. His personal motto when it comes to cooking is, “I cook food that I want to eat.”

For Valentine’s Day, Chef Marc prepared a five-course tasting menu designed to bring couples closer together. The first dish was a shared platter of crab legs, prawns and oysters. It went great with the complimentary glass of champagne. The sharing continued with the third course, where the side dishes were served family style.

The Wagyu New York medallion was one of the best steaks I’ve ever tasted. The Chilean sea bass melted in your mouth. all the food from start to finished was excellent. Overall, it was a very memorable Valentine’s Day dinner, and I look forward to dinning at Oak Grill again during a normal day.
