I wrote about the Koenigsegg CCX back in March. I called it my new dream car because it was beautiful, expensive, and crazy fast (0-60 in 3.2 seconds, 245 MPH top speed).

What I like most about the Koenigsegg CCX is it subscribes to the high power / low weight method of building cars. Most sports cars today have lots of power but they’re also heavy. The CCX engine makes 806HP but has to move only 2,601 lbs of car. That is just a few lbs heavier than a Mazda Miata.

The reason I’m writing about the CCX again is because I may have a chance to view it live. A week ago, I received an Email from Exotic Cars at Caesars Palace. Exotic Cars is the only authorized Koenigsegg dealer in America. It seems the Director of Operations for Exotic Cars reads my blog. He noticed my Koenigsegg CCX posts and decided to Email me. Right now, Exotic Cars does not have a CCX in stock but they hope to by the time I’m in Vegas.

With the renewed interest in the CCX, I decided it was time to get some new photos of the car. One of the nice thing about owning The TechZone is I can easily get a “Media Login” for any company site. All automakers maintain a media site so members of the press can get company information and download high quality photos.

The photos at Koenigsegg’s website are extremely high quality and very BIG - I’m talking 8,563 x 6,909 pixels big. Some of the image files are over 25 Megs! I downloaded two images that I really like. I am using them as the current wallpapers for my dual widescreen LCD setup. I figure I would share them. The photos have been resized to fit a 1680 x 1050 screen.

John, I will agree with you that this is one of my top dream cars. Another car you should take a look at is the Caparo T1. This car weighs only 1200lbs, and has 500hp — a better power-to-weight ratio then even the CCX and the Bugatti Veyron. The Caparo T1 looks like a formula 1 car for the street, but if you are about balls-to-the-walls exotics, this is the car for you! Thanks.

Nate - Yes I have seen drawings and photos of the Caparo T1. It’s sure to be a crazy machine if it ever makes production. However, I think looks too much like a race car and not enough like a street car.

You are one lucky man! If I were you I would review the new Audi R8! thats one magnificient machine. Speaking of power/weight ratio, check out 2007 Lotus Sport Exige Cup. It only has 252hp but It can reach 100km/h in 3.9 secs.

Perhaps it is time for you to make a car website? Then you can get a press pass to cars shows and try to get free rides!

I agree with HMT. You would be great writing about cars, plus its somethings you like. I would really recommend you think on doing a blog on cars. Don’t limit yourself just to this one. If you think this blog is successful, just wait until you do a auto related blog.

That is a fine looking machine and I can only imagine what it would be like to actually drive one. Hopefully they have one when you make it to Vegas.

While I love speed, my preference for cars has always been towards the older American muscle cars. I think part of that is that I missed out an opportunity to own one back when I was 17 as my dad thought it was way too much car for me. He was probably right but man that would have been fun.

Nice article as well, the non-SI units are kinda confusing though, but I suppose that’s the price you’ll have to pay for reading an American blog.

Hey John, so there will be a showing at CES for the car? Or is it a private function put on roughly the same time as CES?

Hopefully they let ya take it for a spin eh if not, perhaps you can sit in it and get your picture taken, then photoshop the crap out of the background!

Ed Lau - The Koenigsegg had that wing as an option long before the Top Gear show. The wing was used in 2005 Koenigsegg that lap the Nürburgring in 7 min 39 sec. Top Gear took credit for creating the wing when they had nothing to do with it other than say it needed a wing so Stig can do a quicker time.

Leftblank - The wallpaper-worthy photos are available only to members for the press.

Walter Vos - You can see the carbon fiber wing in the above photo of the CCX. It’s available as an option, along with Carbon Fiber wheels.

Tyler - the car is not being shown at CES. It was shown at SEMA. Right now, they don’t have a car but they’re trying to get another one in. Hopefull, it will be in when I get to Vegas this Sunday.

weirdoux - You were not mistaken. I am running some ads on Darren’s site.

I agree with Michael Kwan, I see Ferraris and such too often now-a-days and to see something like a Koeingsegg or whatever would be head-turning.

Saw a Lotus the other day looked crazy. Not sure what model but looked really slick andI haven’t seen one in years. I even saw a Delorian (sp) the other day too! Perhaps I’ll pull the image off my cellphone and post it in my random gallery. *shrug*

A sports car is a waste of money. Sure people might stare in envy, but in a few years that thing is worthless. For me I would rather drive something like a BMW 5 series. (which I already do :)) It’s a nice car but not to flashy.

Man that would be really cool to get an invite on the CCX. It would be really cool to do an interview with you on what the expeerience would be like. The SEMA show is going to be crazy itself. I know one of the craziest booths will be the Pioneer booth. Every year they try to out do the year before. And John if any vendor has any cold air intakes or body kits they want to give away as swag and you dont want to use I will take it. :)

If I had the money I don’t think I would have some billion dollar car either.

I’ve always wanted a BMW because they look good, and their not too too pricey. But then my and my ‘Rolla is good enough for now.

I totally agree that a car like this (or cars in general) are a “waste of money”, and that no one should be buying one that stretches their budget at all, but damn. I want one. Considering that people who would even consider buying a Koenigsegg probably make seven figures a year, it would be the same as me splurging on a laptop or Nintendo DS or something.

Stew - I don’t think I want to own a car that cost as much as the average house in Vancouver. However, I wouldn’t mind renting it for a weekend. By then, I’m sure I’ll get it out of my system. :)

Michael & Tyler - There are way too many Ferraris, Lambos, and Porsches in Vancouver. No one even bats an eye at them anymore. However, a CCX would stop traffic cold!

Icon - SEMA is over. I’m going to the CES this Sunday.

I guess there must be a fairly high combined spending power behind all those who regularly read your blog and Techzone.

Put the luxury sports car in front of people with buying power and a love of high tech gadgetry, and at least one or two are bound to snap! ;)
