Wax On, Wax Off

written by John Chow on January 14, 2007

Make money with YouTube

Here are some more photos from the Dell CES party. By now, everyone should have figured out that Dell held their party at Madame Tussauds and all the rich and famous people were made of wax. Personally, I think if I didn’t post that picture of my hand on JLo’s butt, everyone would have thought those photos were real.

This collection of photos is not as realistic as the last set, but they are a lot funnier. We had a great time trying to come up with some creative poses. Some of the photos are believable, the rest are just silly. Enjoy! :)

Last one is the best. You are evil, I think thats why I read your blog.

Jane January 14, 2007 at 9:46 pm

That last picture is your best facial expression…looks like it hurt :)

Some of the girls look pretty real, just a little sweaty!

Jon Daniel January 14, 2007 at 9:47 pm

Remember “Don King” at the buffet? ROFL! Great pictures John!

Michael Kwan January 14, 2007 at 9:50 pm

Don King looks pretty believable, but what gives some of them away is that their hands can be pretty shiny/glossy.

soj January 14, 2007 at 10:01 pm

i think don king takes the most realistic award, that is unbelievably good, when are they doing a John Chow wax copy

derrich January 14, 2007 at 11:10 pm

Definitely Don King. Tiger and George Clooney are the most fake.

Juan Francisco Diez January 14, 2007 at 11:22 pm

WUaHaHaHahaha

The last picture LOL!

Leftblank January 15, 2007 at 12:15 am

Rofl John, wonderful, looks like you guys have had a lot of fun there playing with the statues :)

Raghu January 15, 2007 at 12:34 am

John,

Guess you are right in your last posting you picture with JLo let it out to many people if not all.

In this set I liked the one where you hand is being bitten off… you expression makes it look real !

Hawaii SEO January 15, 2007 at 1:31 am

Hilarious!

Nomar January 15, 2007 at 3:14 am

the last 1 is too great :D

Andreas Bard January 15, 2007 at 3:43 am

Man you are funny! I have never been to Madame Tussauds, but I will next time I am in London. Seems like hell lot of fun.

Excellent photos, glad to see you’re working hard ;-)

John, your RSS feed is really playing up for me at the moment – I can’t subscribe because it’s reported as invalid?

Nomar January 15, 2007 at 4:23 am

It is really fun, I have bin there in Amsterdam, First i thought.. damn.. boring..

but when i was there, and saw all the famous dolls.. it was really fun :D

HMTKSteve January 15, 2007 at 4:41 am

The best ones are the ones where the figures are not placed in some sort of context. Tiger Woods with golf clubs???

My New Choice January 15, 2007 at 5:04 am

Those are some great pictures. I’ve only been to the wax museum once but this reminded me of a few photos that we took. I love that last picture with the tiger.

Blogcrowds January 15, 2007 at 6:25 am

Hef! :D :D :D :D

I have to go there some day :D :D

Raghu January 15, 2007 at 6:34 am

I had visited the Madame Tussauds at London a couple of years back. I visited the one at Amsterdam just before the new year. Though some of the statues are no doubt good some of them are of course not depicting the people as they are today which makes them look at lot unreal !

Anyways the museum is a must visit any day…

Ryan January 15, 2007 at 6:46 am

Any idea how much it costs to make one of these? They’re all very realistic, and yes without J-Lo they would have looked real!

Aris January 15, 2007 at 6:46 am

soj asked, when are they doing John Chow’s wax copy? I thought they have already done it. :-) :-) :-)

Please check the second to last picture. It looks like a real wax copy to me. :-) :-) :-)

I agree, this is the fun part of John that makes me check his blog daily.

Michael January 15, 2007 at 8:46 am

Love the pics. I figured that they were wax with the first post.

Do you post your address somewhere for the people that want to send you stuff?

Michael

Bob Schmuck January 15, 2007 at 9:02 am

I looked at the pictures first and thought the first couple was for real. Until I saw the one with Tiger Woods. So I decided to read the post. :)

Great set of pictures, John.

Ed Lau January 15, 2007 at 9:42 am

I knew at some point I would be asking you this question.

…who is that woman that you’re choking in the picture?

Dale January 15, 2007 at 10:55 am

I agree with a lot of the folks in saying that the last one’s the best one. What a hoot! :)

John Chow January 15, 2007 at 11:05 am

Ed – That’s Buffy the Vampire Salyer. Sarah Michelle Gellar

Allen.H January 15, 2007 at 12:17 pm

Jenna Jameson doesn’t look as realistic as the others, tells you something about perfection eh? lol

Nick Witkoski January 15, 2007 at 1:14 pm

the one with the tiger is just plain wrong :P but i still like it.

Hone Watson January 15, 2007 at 1:49 pm

The Jenna Jameson looks almost as fake as the real version.

Alex Becker January 15, 2007 at 1:57 pm

Yea I like how Tiger Woods has a nice crowd in the back

Nick Witkoski January 15, 2007 at 2:11 pm

spears should have k-fed in her sculpture…I would find it amusing.

Mooney January 15, 2007 at 2:21 pm

That is too funny. I didn’t notice it was fake till about the fourth pic.

Thanks!

Justin Mooney

Andy January 15, 2007 at 3:21 pm

The Tiger Woods one gave it away

Andy January 15, 2007 at 3:21 pm

George Clooney also doesnt looks as realistic as some of the other ones

Tyler January 15, 2007 at 3:58 pm

So John does this mean you’re the Heir to the Playboy Mansion now?

Do we get an invite to the Grotto?

WesleyTech.com January 15, 2007 at 4:44 pm

Wax that arse!

Michael Kwan January 15, 2007 at 5:48 pm

I should have gone to Madame Tussaud’s the last time I was in Vegas. I didn’t go because I thought they were going to have the wax figures behind ropes and such. Now that I know that you can “interact” with them, so to speak, it sounds like a heck of a lot more fun. Not like the Ripley museum in Hollywood.

Hannes Johnson January 15, 2007 at 5:58 pm

Nice pictures :) Madame Tussauds is a lot of fun – they also had Tiger Woods and Britney in New York.

But what about the contest John? Didn’t you say the draw would be Monday?

John Chow January 15, 2007 at 6:07 pm

I just announced the winner of the contest. And I announced a new contest too.

David Mackey January 15, 2007 at 6:57 pm

I think Celebrity Poker I have a hard time telling which are real.

Stew January 15, 2007 at 8:00 pm

Hue Heffner’s fingers are so glossy I would’ve caught that one..

Your facial expression from the tiger bite is surprisingly realistic =D

Jason Landals January 15, 2007 at 11:41 pm

I have no idea who the celebrity poker guy is, but I thought it would be cool to get a picture of all of us sitting with him. Too bad we didn’t have any cards.

Michael Kwan January 16, 2007 at 2:48 pm

They don’t have any chips either.

Robert January 16, 2007 at 3:02 pm

you can get a custom one made of yourself if you like. It is about 300k (US). The article is on http://www.iwantoneofthose.com.

I’ll bet if you had a fund raiser John you would get enough donations to get one :-)

Nomar January 17, 2007 at 12:20 am

lol I think 300k for that one is too much.. even for john. waste of money imo

Peter Avey January 17, 2007 at 5:55 am

haha you funny man.. you sure know how to pose for a picture!..

Alex Becker January 17, 2007 at 6:53 am

300k? Forget that. I can just look in the mirror.

Michael Kwan January 17, 2007 at 5:03 pm

Wow, that’s expensive.

Robert January 18, 2007 at 9:30 am

What price is too much for one’s ego?? :-)
