What Is WordPress?

While BlogWorld has been around for over three years (first year in New York), this is the first time that WordPress was on the show floor. Yes, amazing as it seems, the world’s most popular blog software has avoided the BlogWorld Expo until now.

WordPress set up a nice big display right at the front entrance, making them impossible to overlook. While that was great for them, it may have been a headache for their people staffing the booth since they had to put up with the Infolinks boogie every 30 minutes.

We welcomed WordPress to BlogWorld by asking them the most brain busting questions we can come up with: What is WordPress? The answer is in the video.

While we’re on the subject of WordPress, I should remind everyone that version 3.1.3 is now available for download. This is a security update so everyone must upgrade.

          1. I mean that fellow did not recognise John … If recognised John than he would not have tried to make him understand what is wordpress …

    1. Kevin Kimes says:

Haha, yeah. You guys were just being mean to the poor guy! ๐Ÿ™‚ Although, maybe WP could have had some people who are a bit better with PR at their booth.

  12. Gunnar says:

They probably get people asking questions like “What is WordPress” without being facetious all day long. That’s why it’s kind of hard for this guy to know if John is being serious or not.

  13. Alps says:

I swear : I hadnt heard of WP enough until last year to even have a clue as to how I was going to build my first site. I started at Weebly. =)

    1. Everyone has to start somewhere! I remember when I built my first site in Microsoft Frontpage those, were the days!

      1. My first site as made with Frontpage too, kinda sucked.

    2. WordPress has been around for a long time, that is Internet time.

    3. You know weebly and you do not know wordpress … Now that is really interesting.

      1. Alps says:

You’re right : a crude version of my site still exists at the place =) NO KIDDING. At the time, I was wih godaddy chat support for an hour trying to get thm to tell me how to build a site with login/logout features.

        Weebly didnt have that

        1. Alps says:

And btw – struggled with dreamweaver for a week. People outside the WP loop are totally isolated.

  14. flash game says:

that guy looks very innocent and cute in this video .

    1. And chubby face as well ….

  15. PPC Ian says:

Great video, very entertaining. It’s crazy this is the first year WordPress showed up to BlogWorld. That said, WordPress is free so they probably don’t have a ton of marketing budget. Even if they got in for free, it costs money to have and staff a booth.

    1. exsuit says:

WordPress make a TON of money.

      1. It only makes money from the valued added hosting services for those who are using the open source version and their own hosting they make $0. So with regards to a TON of money they are making a nice chunk but not huge

      2. How does WordPress make money?

  16. fas says:

I was shocked when i read what is wordpress as everyone knows what it is.

    1. Some people don’t. You’ll be surprised.

  17. Hotdogman says:

Were you wearing your “I’m John Chow, Bitch” shirt while you were recording?

    1. I’m surprised people aren’t offended by that shirt.

  18. Tmax says:

Hi guys how good is wordpress in comparison to drupal in terms of SEO and design flexibility? How well does wordpress handle traffic in comparison to drupal? can anyone comment?

    1. Kevin Kimes says:

Not sure on direct comparisons. WordPress is everywhere, which makes it easy to make it do what you want with themes and plug-ins. Whatever you want to do, somebody else has already done it, and many people are available and able to help.

Whether one is faster than the other doesn’t matter, because there are indeed some sites with gigantic traffic numbers running WordPress. It’s “efficient enough”.

If success or failure depends on saving a few dollars on hosting power, then there are bigger problems. Plus there’s Content Delivery Networks, too.

  19. WordPress is the best userface out there if interested in launching a blog.

    1. There really isn’t anything better than WordPress for blogging.

  20. Swamykant says:
