What Is Your Website Grade?

Darin Carter came across a tool that will actually give your website or blog a grade. Not only does this site Grade your Website, it tells you whats wrong with it from a SEO Standpoint.

Website Grader is a free SEO tool that provides an SEO score for your website with custom search engine optimization and marketing advice for your website. Use the form above to enter your website, your keyword phrases and your competitors to receive a report about the marketing effectiveness of your website.

Subscription to the site is totally free and it even gives you a chance to put your site up against other sites in your industry!

You can generate a report for your blog just by entering your URL and nothing else. However, you won’t be allowed to compare your blog to others unless your subscribe. I entered my blog into Website grader and got a grade of 99/100.

A website grade of 99 for www.johnchow.com means that of the thousands of websites that have previously been submitted to the tool, our algorithm has calculated that this site scores higher than 99% of them in terms of its marketing effectiveness. The algorithm uses a proprietary blend of over a dozen different variables, including search engine data, website structure, approximate traffic, site performance, and others.

Only 99%? I thought I was better than that! What is your website grade?

I guess my website doesn’t rank too well – this tool can’t even find it πŸ˜†

    1. Tyler Ingram says:

It found my site and rated it 93 / 100 πŸ™‚

        1. MyBlogCotest says:

          That’s great!
          I only got 76/100 πŸ‘Ώ

          1. DeboHobo says:

            Thank God It’s Friday!!!!

        2. Darin Carter says:

96 … I know you can at least get up to me Ed … pull that 98%

      1. Googlelady says:

That is great congratulations πŸ˜‰ 6 to go to bit the evil guy john chow 😈

    2. Tyler Ingram says:

Lol i read over some of the summary points and it says to read my blog you need an 8th grade reading level πŸ˜‰ I must not use words with more than 2 syllables then!

      1. Googlelady says:

I think the grade reading level is useless. I have also a 8th grade.

        1. SpeedyVista says:

Oh ho! I got a 9-10th grade on one of my sites. I really hate sites like that that do not define how any of the scores are actually tallied, so you can verify that you arent in some random magical case where it wont work…

  2. Aaron says:

My website didn’t do that well. It couldn;t even give me a score! 😯

    1. Aaron says:

Ignore the link I provide above.

  3. Aditya says:

Thanks for sharing with us, i will definetely try this tool out now πŸ™‚

  4. WebSite Grade For http://www.sweethacks.com : 85/100 (September 14, 2007)

One thing which I found really useful is the Search Rankings: seems I am ranking better for a few words which I thought I wasnt ranked for!

    Thanks for posting about this!!

  5. Shaun Carter says:

My site scored a 73/100 – not bad considering it doesn’t even have any PR yet.

Thanks for the heads up on this tool John.

    1. shaun says:

      78/100 not very good πŸ˜₯

      1. Googlelady says:

You can follow what are their suggestions and tweak it. It really works and teach you some basic seo here.

  6. sitefever says:

I’ve seen Darin’s site before and talked about it a while back.

I went back and regraded my site today and scored a 93!

I like this site because its not like a game or a meaningless number- it actually gives you practical SEO advice.

  7. Ryan Dlugosz says:

    WebSite Grade For blog.rrdphoto.com : 75/100 (September 14, 2007)

Thanks for the link, John. This is a very useful tool!

  8. Carlo says:

I like the tool, however, if you input large sites like Google, they have a lower grade than John Chow!

    1. Googlelady says:

because it depends on many factors as pagerank, technorati and others. Google don’t have any h tags etc.. πŸ™‚

I am banned from technorati (and don’t know why, just did what john chow did)

I think if I got unbanned I will increase on the ranking.

  9. Fou Casper says:

My website only scored 19/100 😯 But from this I learned how to improve my web site! Thanks John, for posting this tools!

    1. Fou Casper says:

after 1 hour of fixing, I got a score of 47

  10. Mouseclone says:

This is a cool tool. My grade was a 62. That is not great, but not bad either. I guess I have some more work to do. I think that I got points docked for my website expiring in 197 days. It is set to auto renew though. I guess i can check back after the auto renewal and see if it changes. In that time it could get a lot better. though

    1. Mouseclone says:

I just got done making some changes. Went from a 62 to an 81. I’m sure there are some thing that could still use improving on. But it doesn’t seem like it would take that long to get your score up.

  11. Rob says:

    a little 71% πŸ˜•
but it is ok… the site is new and no PR yet

  12. Kiltak says:

    Scored 98 πŸ™‚

  13. phlizzow says:

Mine is 46 out of 100. I think the score wasn’t too bad but the most valuable thing is the information that it gives to the webmaster. I think this tool is great! πŸ˜›

  14. krillz says:

wow I guess not many sites have been submited yet, I got a 77% for my site, which doesn’t have a pagerank yet.

Well I guess that when more sites are submited the grade will drop, that is unless more sites that are worse than my submit.

  15. Roberta says:

My music blog, Earsucker, is at 63. I guess that’s not too shabby… πŸ™‚

  16. Richard says:

My site http://www.greatreeftanks.com got a 72, not bad considering I have a PR of 0.

  17. Mosley says:

    😯 I ranked 85/100!

It also say I write at a 5th grade reading level. haha! I guess that means I could write for the news paper!

No matter what this site says about my rank, I still need to get some more traffic. If you like Bacon then check out my blog!

  18. Nelson says:

I been using that tool since i created my blog a couple of months ago, I think Aaron Wall mention it on his SEO e-book, which I pirated from bittorrent πŸ‘Ώ (not really, I did buy it) Is a great tool that can help you with some website problems, like domain age, 302 redirection problems etc. hey.. How many of you have read John Chow e-book? I think it kick ass, not to promote the cheap rat John chow on his own blog ( he got that name from the promotion he had about his his 22″ LCD monitor, can you imagine with all the money he makes giving out one of his old monitors he uses, John does that monitor still works?) but because I found his e-book even more helpful than the SEOBook 😈 I wrote a post about that on my blog. I think is buried on my archives already.

  19. ritchie says:

Cool, thanks for the link! My grad is 98%… nice!

  20. cooper says:

93 but it keeps telling me I have no permenent redirect despite the fact I installed wordpress plugin that is supposed to redirect both the www and my dot com to my dot net.
It also says I have too many “meta keywords” and there may be “dilution” but I have no clue as to what that means.

Either way it’s a fun tool.

  21. DayJobNuker says:

Doesn’t everybody know about this tool? Is that all you have to do to look cool is blog about different website tools?

  22. Nelson says:

yeah copper I had the same problem too, the problem probably is that you have too many keywords under your content, try to minimize your keywords less than 10, otherwise search engines will think you are trying to spam them. I don’t think google look at those anymore anyways, but other search engines might.

I;m at lunch so I’m blogging at my work? hehehe.

  23. Lori says:

    77 for acowboyswife.blogspot.com πŸ˜€
Not too bad for a personal blog about nothin’

  24. Joshua says:

My site got a 94. usefulconcept.com I am kind of surprised at that really. Still I will take it. πŸ™‚

  25. JoeTech.com says:

My technology blog, JoeTech.com got a lousy 55/100… I don’t have a title tag or keywords?!? I had better investigate that action. Great tool, though… I’ve bookmarked it for future use.

  26. Adrian says:

  27. Click Input says:

    I got a 78/100

That is a very very cool tool btw.

  28. mike says:

Lori: great, but you cheated with your alexa ranking because it’s uses blogspot’s alexa ranking and not your blog’s

    1. Lori says:

I didn’t realize I was cheating..sorry. Is there something I can do about that? I don’t want to be accused of being a cheater, that’s for sure!

  29. I checked my rating again and it went down 10%. What gives? lol

    1. This compares your site to others that have been submitted. By having so many new people use the tool any sites scoring better than yours will push you down.

I just scored an 89 on mine.

  30. MyBlogCotest says:

    Not so bad, I got 76/100. WebSite Grade For myblogcontest.com : 76/100

  31. Kevin says:

Got an 86. Very useful tool. nice find πŸ™‚

    1. Darin Carter says:

i’m shocked … clean that page up … LOL

  32. Looks like a nice entertaining tool but I am not a big fan of such tools.

  33. John you have been tagged for The Personal Development List. Being that personal development covers several fields including making money online. I would love for you to participate (even with just a mention and a link to the list). With your large influence you could literally help millions of people.

  34. 62.

Blah. I have some work to do.

  35. Scoot says:

COOL. I’m gonna check it out now!

    1. Scoot says:

Well I got a 63. Excellent site for learning which I can afford. This blogging thing is taking over my life — I think I may have a problem!

  36. This is definitely an amazing tool. I am completely new to SEO optimization and that is why I think I only scored a 63% on my entrepreneurship blog ouelletblog.com.

  37. Gdog says:

90 here…pretty neat site. Got your comment about tomorrow, cya there!

  38. Frank C says:

I got 82 for my site linked in my name. Not bad I guess considering it doesn’t any PR yet and is less than 90 days old.

Some older, static HTML, mini-sites I run didn’t fair as well, getting in the 50-60 range. I wonder if this tool is geared more toward blogs than other types of sites?

  39. Googlelady says:

Nice linkbait. My site has a grade of 89. πŸ™„ Ten to go john chow πŸ˜†

  40. Darin Carter says:

    I’m a 98%, Your a 99% and Shoe is a 99% … nice!
p.s. think it’s cause the same guy designed our sites ???
    NA ………

  41. Wow, that’s really cool. ::works on website:: πŸ˜›

  42. My DevDad site scored a 70, but it’s only 45 days old. I’m sure once the PageRank update finally happens, it score higher. Or, I hope so, at least.

  43. Googlelady says:

This tool is definitevely cool. After doing few things that they suggested my rank went up from 86 to 96!

    1. That tool is inaccurate in many things. I wonder what did you changed that raised the % grade of your site. For my site it says has no del.icio.us submissions while it does have (and one is from alexking). The Readability Level seems to be based on how often we use common words and nothing tech related.

As i said, a good entertainment tool, nothing more nothing less.

  44. DavidYin says:

    Cool tool.
    Thank you for sharing.

    I got 95.

  45. S George says:

Is this another John Chow evil?? I wonder… The site seems to be very coo. Check an interesting post on the tool / John / Darin and Internet Giants on my blog.

  46. I got 83/100. I thought that was fairly good considering my sites only been up for a month.

  47. Mike says:

It seems like this site isn’t very accurate…since Mr. Chow only got 99/100 πŸ™‚

  48. Kevin says:

Our site got a 57/100 which is no surprise since it’s been online for a week or so. I have a question about Google indexing though…

We have already gotten a lot of traffic.. thanks digg and su. But we are ranking for most of our user’s posts already and I don’t understand why. Google bmw m3 vs. audi rs4 and you’ll see us. We showed up the following morning after a user made that post.

We have 0 pagerank, no links other than those in digg, and no publicity at all. Does google like .us names or is it literally because of the page title?

  49. Ognjen says:

I got my blog started yesterday (thanks to John Chow). Its grade is 23% – I guess it’s a good start.

  50. SpeedyVista says:

Geez, I rank an 85 for one of my sites, but another larger site of mine only ranks like a 65. Very odd.

    1. Jug says:

Maybe you did a better job in optimizing your smaller site… πŸ™„

  51. Kevin says:

  56. I had a 62/100. I went ahead and reduced the number of keywords in my meta file to 10 and added an email subscription to my feed and I bumped up to 85!

  57. 40/100
Great site offered some interesting things about my competitors.

  58. Jug says:

My site got 93/100. Not bad, but not that impressive…

  59. doug m says:

i ran this earlier and the info it provides is very useful especially to a new blogger. it has given me some insight into the areas i need to touch on and fix up. this was very useful.

  60. Kevin says:

57/100. We launched a week ago so I won’t complain. Still PR 0 but Google has indexed 80% of our site already so that’s a plus.

  61. 68/100 great knowing that we just launched.

  62. 93/100 great knowing that we only launched less than 3 months ago.

  63. Jenny says:

I got a 45/100, lots of work to do. Good to know though.

  64. The Wolf says:

I scored a 40. Wow, I suck. I’m even giving away a Nintendo Wii and getting very little traction.

  65. ThΓ‘ssius says:

  71. Klaudio says:

    http://www.klajo.com has got 61%
I’ve just started a month ago with my blog. But how i see it isn’t very good by comparing the other grades πŸ˜†

    Congratulation john!

  72. Rob says:

thanks to the post of John i got from my previous 71% to 84% just changing a few things the site advised me to do. πŸ™‚

  73. Gaming Forum says:

Nice tool, I used it and it gave me a better idea of what I can try to improve. Let’s see if it works

  74. Wahlau.NET says:

i think that it is just another tool to grade your website

    1. That’s the point πŸ˜‰

  75. my site ranks 47 and considering i shifted to wordpress few days back this isnt “un”expected πŸ’‘

  76. Nice grade – I only got 72 πŸ™

    Though it’s not bad for a 16-day-old blog/domain! πŸ˜€

  77. SpeedyVista says:

There almost needs to be some open development around analyzing sites. sourceforge project or something, where people can come together and throw around ideas on different metrics. One person (or site) making up stuff has no accountabiliyt. I mean .. fucking leapfish spits out absolute shit and they are quite popular.. The algos made would have a lot of other uses and could really benefits people in SEO, blogging, what have you

  78. Tay says:

I’ve been using that site for a while now. My grade is a 93. I think that’s pretty good, but there’s definitely a lot of room for improvement. Anyway, you can see my post where I talk about this tool and 3 others here:

    Thanks! πŸ™‚

  79. I just started my blog so my website grade won’t be that high but at once i have enough content, the grade will speak for itself πŸ™‚

  80. Googlelady says:

Someone checked a site that needs a PHD to read the blog LOL that was funny πŸ˜€

  81. Ritu says:

Its nice to see that I wrote of something that you would write about as well. Its a good feeling. If you would like to check it out here is the link to my post

  82. ORiN says:

My anime website only get 65/100. Looks like I got a lot of work to do.

  83. Rob says:

    93/100 after a few changes

  84. Gary Grant says:

78/100 but more importantly, it’s shown a few issues that we’ll be able to work on to improve things.

    Nice tool.

  85. Jason says:

No new posts in 4 days? Or am I just not getting new content? 😐

  86. Chris says:

I’ve been using the tool for quite some time, one thing I love about the tool is you are able to view your scores at a glance (by adding to dashboard) if you have multiple blogs.

  87. That is very good tool. Looks like I missed that post earlier and good I found it now… I have Grade 86 πŸ™‚ is it good?
