What Is Your Website Grade?

written by John Chow on September 14th, 2007

Darin Carter came across a tool that will actually give your website or blog a grade. Not only does this site Grade your Website, it tells you whats wrong with it from a SEO Standpoint.

Website Grader is a free SEO tool that provides an SEO score for your website with custom search engine optimization and marketing advice for your website. Use the form above to enter your website, your keyword phrases and your competitors to receive a report about the marketing effectiveness of your website.

Subscription to the site is totally free and it even gives you a chance to put your site up against other sites in your industry!

You can generate a report for your blog just by entering your URL and nothing else. However, you won’t be allowed to compare your blog to others unless your subscribe. I entered my blog into Website grader and got a grade of 99/100.

A website grade of 99 for www.johnchow.com means that of the thousands of websites that have previously been submitted to the tool, our algorithm has calculated that this site scores higher than 99% of them in terms of its marketing effectiveness. The algorithm uses a proprietary blend of over a dozen different variables, including search engine data, website structure, approximate traffic, site performance, and others.

webgrade.png

Only 99%? I thought I was better than that! What is your website grade?

I like the tool, however, if you input large sites like Google, they have a lower grade than John Chow!

Googlelady said on September 14th, 2007 at 12:29 pm

because it depends on many factors as pagerank, technorati and others. Google don’t have any h tags etc.. :)

I am banned from technorati (and don’t know why, just did what john chow did)

I think if I got unbanned I will increase on the ranking.

This is a cool tool. My grade was a 62. That is not great, but not bad either. I guess I have some more work to do. I think that I got points docked for my website expiring in 197 days. It is set to auto renew though. I guess i can check back after the auto renewal and see if it changes. In that time it could get a lot better. though

I just got done making some changes. Went from a 62 to an 81. I’m sure there are some thing that could still use improving on. But it doesn’t seem like it would take that long to get your score up.

I been using that tool since i created my blog a couple of months ago, I think Aaron Wall mention it on his SEO e-book, which I pirated from bittorrent  (not really, I did buy it) Is a great tool that can help you with some website problems, like domain age, 302 redirection problems etc. hey.. How many of you have read John Chow e-book? I think it kick ass, not to promote the cheap rat John chow on his own blog ( he got that name from the promotion he had about his his 22″ LCD monitor, can you imagine with all the money he makes giving out one of his old monitors he uses, John does that monitor still works?) but because I found his e-book even more helpful than the SEOBook  I wrote a post about that on my blog. I think is buried on my archives already.

It also says I have too many “meta keywords” and there may be “dilution” but I have no clue as to what that means.

Either way it’s a fun tool.

yeah copper I had the same problem too, the problem probably is that you have too many keywords under your content, try to minimize your keywords less than 10, otherwise search engines will think you are trying to spam them. I don’t think google look at those anymore anyways, but other search engines might.

I;m at lunch so I’m blogging at my work? hehehe.

That tool is inaccurate in many things. I wonder what did you changed that raised the % grade of your site. For my site it says has no del.icio.us submissions while it does have (and one is from alexking). The Readability Level seems to be based on how often we use common words and nothing tech related.

We have already gotten a lot of traffic.. thanks digg and su. But we are ranking for most of our user’s posts already and I don’t understand why. Google bmw m3 vs. audi rs4 and you’ll see us. We showed up the following morning after a user made that post.

We have 0 pagerank, no links other than those in digg, and no publicity at all. Does google like .us names or is it literally because of the page title?
