Woodward’s Bricks for Sale

written by John Chow on September 5th, 2006

Remember all the boo-haw-haw over the Woodward’s development? Well it seems Bob Rennie is not done yet. I just got this email offering the bricks of the soon be demolished Woodward’s building.

Dear Mr. Chow,

Bricks from the historic Woodward’s department store in downtown Vancouver will be going on sale September 17 to help support BladeRunners, a special program that offers employment and training opportunities for homeless youth.

The original 1903 corner façade of Woodward’s is being restored as part of the new development. The bricks donated by W Redevelopment Group for the “Bricks for BladeRunners” sale originate from the other parts of the site.

Sunday, September 17, 2006 (10 am to 2 pm)
150 West Cordova Street

Pricing for the bricks is inspired by the popular Woodward’s “$1.49 Day” sales, bricks cost $14.99 for the general public. Corporate sponsors can purchase bricks with a minimum donation of $500. A Certificate of Authenticity will be issued with all bricks, and corporate donations are eligible for tax receipts.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity — Only 2000 bricks are available for purchase!

Well, since I didn’t purchased a condo at Woodward’s when it went on sale; I guess buying a brick is the next best thing. I can always throw the brick at the new Woodward’s condo owners. I’m sure a lot of Downtown Eastside residents will be doing that.

At least it’s going to a good cause!

Ya but see how they rip off the corporate buyer? They must first pay $500 and then pay $14.99 per brick!

Hi Tony,

I forgot the sale was on today as well! I didn’t get any. :( Sorry.

You should give Rennie a call tomorrow. Maybe they still have some bricks left.
