WordPress 2.9.2 Available For Download

WordPress has released a security update for the world’s best blogging software. Version 2.9.2 is exactly the same as version 2.9.1 except it has an update to close off a problem where logged in users can peek at trashed posts belonging to other authors. If your WordPress blog has only you updating it, then most likely this update won’t do anything for you and you can wait until 2.9.3 comes out. However, that update notice in the WordPress admin panel always bugs me so I will update later tonight.

I never knew there was a trash cash for posts. Does anybody use it? I knew they added a trash can for comments that I absolutely hate. Who needs a trash can when you can just delete forever?

Yeah, why would we need a trash post when we could just delete it.

    1. It is very useful. never clicked ‘delete’ by accident, either because your page was still loading, because you thought you deleted another post, touched your touchpad acidentally or whatever reason?

Now you can have a second chance 🙂

      1. I like the second chance bit! I’ve pressed delete too many times in my life and regretted it afterwards. I can not believe that such a minor thing warrants a whole new update to WordPress, however. Personally I’ll wait for the 2.9.3 upgrade!

        1. I like the second chance too.. you never know when you might need to recover something! plus, it automatically deletes after a few weeks

    2. You may regret something that you already deleted — so it is wise to move it to trash first and then after think, you can delete it.

  2. Nice! But wordpress.com really should just have minor patch instead of big updates for a single update.

    1. Very true but I do feel that they know very much about their functions.

Minor update. Probably not worth downloading.

    1. It’s not worth it unless you have a multi-author blog. That’s all it does is give you security if you do.

      1. Do not ignore even minor update.

A single loop hole can cost your whole blog. So download it now.

        1. Not in this case. It’s just a flaw that allows authors to see the posts of others. Nothing life-threatening at all.

  4. Just Saw this New update… Though good for Blog with Subscription open else I will suggest wait for a while…

  5. I agree about the little notice in the admin. It gets annoying after awhile and I just update, even if it’s nothing big in the update. I guess that’s what they want you to do though. 🙂

    1. That thing annoys the hell out of me too.

      1. That message is the WORST! I wish there was a way to disable it unless it”s a MAJOR security patch.

    2. I always have that friggin notice for plugins, always up there.

  6. Steve says:

I agree. There should be more options on the comments cause it is not simple to approve a spam comment or delete a non-spam comment.

    1. Are you running an updated version of WordPress? You are able to trash/spam/edit/etc all in place within your admin panel. It’s instant.

Gotta love when the only issue you have with your software is the trash can. Thanks for the update John.

  8. thanks for the update john,,,

  9. Gonna go update it now, thanks for the heads up!

I usually wait for an upgrade to be a few days old.

    1. I do that with big updates like 2.8 to 2.9. There’s always something that pops up a few days later and you have to reupdate!

    2. And that’s the type of people that end up getting their blogs hacked.

Seriously, hackers can find your blog via Google if it isn’t updated. Then you’ll be out of luck.

  11. I aware of it in bloggusion but i never think if this situation is a bug. I think it is a feature of wordpress back then.

  12. Simona Rich says:

I think the trash can is a good idea because you can accidentally delete the stuff you didn’t intend. That happened to me before and it’s really frustrating!

I was actually wondering if I should update to 2.9.2 because new updates almost always contain some bugs. It’s great that I’ve found your post as it explained what the update is about. Since I’m the only author, it’s great that I don’t need to do anything about the update.

Your blog, by the way, is amazing!

    1. Yes, if you’re the only author in your blog then you don’t need to update. Just wait for 2.9.3… or v3 – which should be awesome!

      1. It takes a few seconds to update your blog. It does it automatically– why not update?

    Hi
I am asking somewhat off track question here.
But will u please paste the list of pinging services you use in your blog?

    1. I would just use pingomatic for it – its included in wordpress by default. It pings all the important ping places for you. I tried to add others and it REALLY messed up my blog in the past by slowing down my site.

  14. Melvin says:

Oh I see. I’ve been wondering on that flaw as well.. Thanks for the reminder.

  15. aisblogger says:

    ok. i gonna try it.

  16. I noticed they changed the word from “delete” to “trash” so I kind of figured they weren’t a hard removal, but rather a soft one.

I don’t really mind if others can see trashed posts, but I could see why it could potentially be a problem.
