Wordpress 2.2.1 Available For Download

written by John Chow on June 21st, 2007

WordPress 2.2.1 is now available for download. Wordpress 2.2.1 is a bug fix release for the 2.2 series. Since 2.2 was released a month ago, the WordPress community has been improving fit-and-finish by identifying and fixing those little bugs that can be so annoying and by fine-tuning some small details. The result is a nicely polished 2.2.1 release. Some of the highlighted bug fixes include:

  • Atom feed validation fixes
  • XML-RPC fixes
  • Widget backward compatibility fixes
  • Widget layout fixes for IE7
  • Page and Text Widget improvements

Unfortunately, 2.2.1 is not just a bug fix release. Some security issues came to light during 2.2.1 development, making 2.2.1 a required upgrade. 2.2.1 addresses the following security vulnerabilities:

  • Remote shell injection in PHPMailer
  • Remote SQL injection in XML-RPC
  • Unescaped attribute in default theme

The upgrade from Wordpress 2.2 to 2.2.1 went smoothly for me. However, I had to go back to the original version of ExecPHP. I had mod the codes in order for ExecPHP to work with 2.2. Since 2.2.1 addressed that bug, my ExecPHP plugin didn’t work until I switch back to the original.

If you’re still on Wordpress 2.1, then now would be the time to upgrade to the latest Wordpress.

I am hoping they fixed the add category bug. Because for me and a few people I know on 3.3 it would not allow anymore new categories. I guess I will know soon enough :)

Really funny to see adsense in your post with headers like; “JohnChow is old news. Let someone else show you the way.”

Well, it worked becuse I clicked on that ad. You’re still the better Guru, John.

The new release is really cool, but disappointing still in the number of compatible plugins.

My upgrade to a new blog not public yet was successful, but my current blog will have to wait until I find the plugins I need.

Aha,Hmm good news i guess, but i believe fixing the adding category problem is a must..

now i still have to use http://limadang.com intead of http://www.limadang.com directly..

this is kinda annoying..but the good news is they did something about it?

i still did not upgrade to the latest fix..

2.1 has security issues that could allow hackers to get your password.

Hmm… I am using version 2.2 now..

Is it really necessary to upgrade. I am a bit lazy to re-configure a lot of things…

anyway, thanks John for that information

Would recommend you do upgrade anyway. Better safe than sorry is my principle. :-)

What would John Chow do…he’d upgrade to the 2.2.1. and let everyone know it’s working fine. That’s very considerate of you, Mr. Chow.

This update came out just in time. I’m working on revamping my personal blog into a professional entrepreneur blog and can’t wait to implement the update.

Is anyone else experiencing feed issues with this latest upgrade? My feed has been XML validated, though it has some things it says I could optimize (embed, object, etc.). But now it’s returning an error with NetVibes.

Anyway to force an RSS XML fully validated version? Like it would strip out the things it doesn’t like?

Thanks.

Nevermind. It came back, just needed about 30 mins to resynch. Wish I hadn’t stressed it.

Let’s simplify it then. 500$ and your user name and password for the FTP and I will do it all for you for the rest of the year. Pay 5.000$ and I will provide lifetime support. :-D

It takes much longer to wade through all the comments than to actually perform the update.

The best advice: get to work.

Afterwards you will be glad you made the effort. Good luck, and happy blogging. :-)
