Wordpress 2.3.1 Available for Download

written by John Chow on October 26th, 2007

For those who never read the news headlines in your Dashboard, Wordpress has released Version 2.3.1. All those who didn’t upgrade when Wordpress released 2.3, because of bugs that always accompany a new series release, can now upgrade with more piece of mind.

This upgrade includes a security fix so anyone running Wordpress 2.3 must upgrade. 2.3.1 fixes over twenty bugs. Some of the notable fixes are:

  • Tagging support for Windows Live Writer
  • Fixes for a login bug that affected those with a Blog Address different than their WordPress Address
  • Faster taxonomy database queries, especially tag intersection queries
  • Link importer fixes

If the thought of upgrading Wordpress terrifies you, then you might consider the auto Wordpress upgrader from Techie Buzz that will upgrade your blog automatically.

  1. Hmmm… I wonder what the Windows Live Writer Tagging feature does…that’s somethin’ new.

  2. I think I’ll opt to use the auto Wordpress Upgrader  .

  3. What was the plug-in that automatically updates for you?

  4. And again … a wordpress release. When will it end ?!

    • It will not end, this is what I like about Wordpress because they are constantly improving their software. This is what makes them the best blogging platform around.

  5. Thanks a lot, will upgrade today. Also lyricsreg, if we are lucky, it will never end!

  6. The automatic upgrader rocks

  7. The problem has been solved (?) by going from 2.3 to 2.3.1. What is the guarantee that there will not be a 2.3.2?

  8. I have upgraded but my editor place seems to have some word bolded up. Not much of a problem though.

  9. Thanks John for the information. I will upgrade now.

  10. Thanks for the great tip. I recently changed my Permalink structure and I was afraid of losing my link love, but Word Press handled it beautifully! I’m hoping the upgrade don’t foul that up!

  11. Thanks for the great tip. I recently changed my Permalink structure and I was afraid of losing my link love, but Word Press handled it beautifully! I’m hoping the upgrade doesn’t foul that up!

  12. don really care about the upgrade..coz i use blogger.huhu..

  13. Dude it’s a little hard to not notice the new version news. As it is written in a topbar everywhere in your admin area.

    Lazy suturday post?

  14. These tips are the one I’m looking for.

    Thanks, John.

  15. I’ll have to try the auto upgrader thing. Sounds neat.

  16. I upgraded last night, but when I ran the upgrade.php script it told me I didn’t need to update, which was very odd.

    • the upgrade.php is used to update the mysql tables. In this update all that was unchanged, the only update was done to the code in the files themselves, thus that message.

  17. Upgrading never seems to be the most fun thing but I guess I will have to try it out now on another blog.

  18. Yeah, finally. I’ve heard about some blogs being hacked. Hope it gets better with this security fix!

  19. Whoever would ever want to use an automatic updater?

Regular updates actually offers everyone an extra opportunity to assure that everything is in fine order after the upgrade. I like to be on the safe side. IF and when one forgets a database update there is a minimal risk of something not working properly, and I prefer adjusting that straight away.

Call me workaholic…..

  20. Does anyone have problem with wp upgrade? (2.3->2.3.1)
I have one Big. Never have till this upgrade and really don’t know how to fix it.
