WordPress 3.1.4 Available for Download

WordPress has released version 3.1.4 of the world’s best blogging software. This is a maintenance and security update for all previous versions. All users are recommended to update to this newest version.

This release fixes an issue that could allow a malicious Editor-level user to gain further access to the site. Thanks K. Gudinavicius of SEC Consult for bringing this to our attention. Version 3.1.4 also incorporates several other security fixes and hardening measures thanks to the work of WordPress developers Alexander Concha and Jon Cave of our security team. Consult the change log for more details.

Download WordPress 3.1.4 or update immediately from the Dashboard → Updates menu in your site’s admin area.

WordPress 3.2 Release Candidate 3

The next great WordPress, version 3.2, is right around the corner. However, if you’re feeling brave you can test out the latest release candidate 3.

This release was about all that stood in the way of a final release of WordPress 3.2. So we’re also announcing the third release candidate for 3.2, which contains all of the fixes in 3.1.4; few minor RTL, JavaScript, and user interface fixes; and ensures graceful failures if 3.2 is run on PHP4. As a reminder, we’ve bumped our minimum requirements for version 3.2 to PHP 5.2.4 and MySQL 5.0.

To test WordPress 3.2, try the WordPress Beta Tester plugin (you’ll want “bleeding edge nightlies”). Or you can download the release candidate here.

It’s too bad that no software is ever going to be 100% hacker proof. For example, 200,000 account numbers and contact information were stolen, so Citibank had to cancel their accounts and credit cards.

Good reason not to keep your cash in the mattress…

There’s a never ending battle with hackers and others with malicious intent, but if you stay on top of your sites security, they’re not going to mess with you.

There are more than enough people who don’t take their security seriously and hackers can tell pretty quickly which ones are the low hanging fruit.

        1. Kevin Kimes says:

These days, if an “elite” level hacker or group of hackers decides to target an individual, there’s pretty much nothing the individual could do to stop them from causing some kind of significant damage.

Even in the case of large organizations, the hackers can sometimes get what they want. Look back at the source code theft of Half-Life 2, or what the Anonymous group did to that government contracted security company. Sony’s online accounts, etc, etc. There are dozens of examples.

However, we have to assume that most big companies are under nearly constant assault. Yet they remain uncompromised most of the time.

      2. But how could a hacker get to your cash in the mattress? 🙂

What if your house burns down? I doubt the FCC will cover that.

        1. Kevin Kimes says:

Fireproof safe in your closet would work for that.

    2. Yes hackers are one step ahead from the normal software developer.

  2. that is great, I am regular user of WP and it is a good software with diversified features. Thanks john for information.

I couldn’t run my online biz without WordPress! 🙂

      1. Kevin Kimes says:

Yes. Open sources software is one of the biggest enablers of online business startups. If we had to purchase software to replace WordPress, GIMP, and a slew of others, startup costs would be a barrier for most people in the business.

    2. WordPress is awesome, it’s not just a blogging platform anymore. There are so much plugin, extensions, and themes you can make almost any type of site with the wordpress platform.

  3. Thanks for the info John! Happy Canada Day’s eve!

  4. Abhik says:

    1. Great Abhik.

I asked you one question here … What other features of awebar you are using which John not discussed yet.

      1. Kevin Kimes says:

I think most commentators don’t check back to see if anyone asked them anything. 😛

        1. Yes Kevin …

I always prefer to read my previous comments and wanted to see if someone told anything or ask anything or in any way I could help them

    1. PPC Ian says:

It’s always a good idea to have your WP version current.

Also, keep your plugins current. Otherwise, any inconsistencies can cause

    Backup is the key.
