This Canada Day (July 1), the 1200 block of Hamilton Street in Yaletown will be closed to traffic for an Olympic-style street party with live music, food and fun competitions to celebrate The Yaletown Grandprix with racing set to start at 1pm.
10+ local acts including The Kemal Evans Band, Sam Mackay, Keys To Phoenix, Michale Aot, Cindy-Lou Potter, The Sicks, Jessica Vaira, Dan Pangman, The Miss Emily Millen Band, and DJ’s Rico and Kate Matthews Music will start at 12pm and will go to 9pm, located on the MAIN stage next to the party’s host, SOCIETY on Hamilton Street.
There will also be some great contests throughout the afternoon with competitions between businesses on the street and with the crowds:
Oyster shucking competition
Yaletown’s Best burger competition
Marshmallow golf tourney
Street hockey tourney in the 1000 block of Hamilton
I will be judging Yaletown’s best burger competition along with Richard Wolak from Vancouver Foodster, Erin Ireland from It’s To Die For and Raul Pacheco-Vega from Hummingbird 604. As many of you know, I love burgers and when the Global Group asked me to be a judge, I jumped at the chance.
If you’re looking for some fun activities to do on this Canada Day, the Yaletown Block Party is the place to be. See you there!
From judging cupcakes to judging burgers. Must be nice getting all that free food eh? You going down to Canada Place to see the re-lighting of the cauldron too?
If we are still downtown during that time, ya!
Damn John, you’re so lucky to experience so many things from marketing, blogging, to actively partaking in the food industry. That’s the life I want to live 😉
Then just do it! SY
It takes time to get there 😉
you can’t just be rich.
Living the life you want doesn’t require to be rich 😉 SY
yeah but it requires one to have at least a sufficient income stream thats my view of it.
Yeah with that you can roam around without any fear of loosing business and that.
Start now.
Why are these events never near me??! Haha
I know! I guess we should start partcipating in our own community.
There was a few blog event in my country but not related to internet marketing, more to food event.
Still waiting to win a contest that includes airfare John!! 🙂
yeah me too i would love to win also
I love Canada very much but I have no option to come.
yeah same with me, but would have loved to visit though
Burger competition? 😉 Sounds like there will be having a lot of fun. Pancake, oyster, burger, what’s next?
Regards,
Lee
Yeah, man, BURGERS!! Look’s like a lot of fun!!
John! You start with cup, now burger, what’s next.
Any chance you make a video of the “Marshmallow golf tourney”? My mind boggles imagining how that goes, rofl, SY
I imagine it as as soft golf using marshmallows instead of golf balls. Perhaps the clubs will be of a softer variety too.
Should I be there I’d tape it.

Sometimes I think I should move.
John, this sounds like a bunch of fun. I’d love to meet you one day. I live in Buffalo, but it’s still kind of far with the kids. Thanks for posting!
Is Canada Day like the American July 4th? Celebrating independence? Or just celebrating being Canada?
I definitely like the idea of a marshmallow golf tourney, but its probably gonna take a couple hits to get that marshmallow to go anywhere 🙂
I’d love to be there but unfortunately i can’t 🙁
Canada is so cool but i do not have any option to come there now
Sounds like quite the party!
Based on all the food we always see on your blog, you’re a great choice for judge of the burger contest!
Well I just love Vancouver especially being from New Jersey and I worked there for a year or more and must of taken a gazillion pictures of all Vancouver – what a beautiful place – so make sure you post some pics so I can relive Vancouver till I get back there since i know all the areas very well. And oh yeah enjoy the hamburgers . Eat one for me.
Saw burger of this competition … really looking delicious.
You are lucky John …
