25 Best Traffic Building Tips – Part #17-1: Web 2.0

web2

We are at part 17 of the series and covered a lot of ground. I want to thank all the people who have been with me from the start on this series. I hope I provided a lot of information and you’ve applied it to your link building campaign. We are going to get a bit advanced going into the next part and this trick requires more time on your end. Link building using Web 2.0 properties requires setting up smaller websites, creating unique content, and then building a pyramid of links to each one. You’re essentially creating your own authority websites and they can be used for years going forward as long as you follow the guidelines. I have clients who have Web 2.0 properties still active, producing results for well over 2 years, but they knew exactly what needed to be done to protect each one from the recent Google updates.

If you’re going to use the following, be sure to spread out your link building from each website and utilize some of the other effective link building strategies discussed earlier. I recommend this because some Web 2.0 properties take anywhere from 1-3 months to fully utilized so it’s important you’re NOT stagnant.

This process should be divided into several sections so I’ll split this content in “3” parts.

Strategy #17 – Web 2.0

To get started, you’ll be making use some of the FREE blogging platforms available to you. I create properties “5” at a time, starting with the following awesome platforms…

  • Worpress.com
  • Blog.com
  • Weebly.com
  • Jimdo.com
  • Jigsy.com

All of these are FREE and you can upgrade to the paid plan if you want to use your own domain. I recommend NOT updating to the paid plans because you’re better off purchasing hosting and creating websites using that method. These Web 2.0 paid plans will cost you $9.99/mo and makes no sense as you’ll be able to purchase hosting for less. Next,

Before setting up your free accounts, it’s important to register for different email addresses. Google has strict guidelines in reference to self-promoting websites so it’s important to keep each website separate. The good news is you can register for free email accounts through Gmail.com, Yahoo.com, Hotmail.com, etc.

Next,

Registering Web 2.0

I recommend to everyone to include the keyword within the URL of the property. For example, if my niche is “SEO” then while setting up a Weebly.com property, I’ll be sure to include “SEO” in the URL. The domain will look like either…

  • seoguide.weebly.com
  • seo4u.weebly.com
  • beginnersseo.weebly.com

You have to remember several people are using these properties so some URL’s will be available and others won’t be. Make sure the name is smooth and makes sense. Once you’ve decided on your niche and target keyword, please go ahead and register all “5” Web 2.0 properties.

The Pages

Each property should be customized with the following pages. I make sure to include the following on every property I create.

About Us – Write 350-400 words on your blog describing your objective and what kind of information people can find.

Contact Us – Many of these properties will provide you with a “contact form” widget that you can drag & drop onto the page. Once you’ve added the widget, specify the email address or leave it blank. The email address you add can be the same you used to register for the account. Many Web 2.0 platforms will automatically use the registered email address as default.

Terms & Conditions – I use a universal Terms & Conditions throughout my website. In the beginning, I spent 3-4 days writing one out and kept it general. However, now I simply copy and paste the same one throughout different properties. If you need a Terms & Conditions, you can utilize this one from my SEO Web 2.0 property.

Privacy Policy – I apply the same method as the Terms & Conditions, writing out one universal “Privacy Policy”. I’ll then copy and paste the same one throughout the different blogs I’ve created. I’ve made sure NOT to include the domain name or any contact information in the policy so it can be used throughout different properties. You can utilize this universal privacy policy from my SEO Web 2.0 property

The Design

I can’t stress how important the design is when setting up these properties. You have to ensure all “5” properties look different and they can’t be all connected to you. You have to remember these are acting like different blogs from different owners so make each one as unique as possible. Here’s something else to remember,

These Web 2.0 properties provide you with enormous leverage when setting them up. They offer a handful of themes, plugins, fonts, color, backgrounds, etc. You have the option to upload images and custom logos so it’s important to take your time a set each one up uniquely. Next, take 5-10 business days setting each one up so it looks natural and this gives you sufficient time to customize each of them.

Next,

Add some custom widgets to each page. I would suggest adding recent posts, comments, achieve, and author bio. These are all elements that can be found on general blogs so make use of what’s available. You should visit general blogs, getting design ideas from each of them so properties look awesome. After you’re done designing them, you can start focusing on the important pages.

What’s next…

In the next section, you’ll learn how to create content for each of these properties. We’ll be discussing content length, frequency, topics, etc. I’ll try and have this content ready in the next 5-10 days.
