Cruising The Mexican Riviera Aboard The Norwegian Jewel

Last year at this time, I took my wife and daughter on a cruise to the Caribbean aboard the Disney Fantasy. This year, we’ll be cruising the Mexican Riviera aboard the Norwegian Jewel by Norwegian Cruise Line.

We’ll be embarking from the Port of Los Angeles at 4pm, and will be sailing the Mexican Riviera for the next seven days. The ship will be making stops at Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Cabo San Lucas, where we will be swimming with the dolphins. Sally is really looking forward to that.

The Norwegian Jewel entered service on August 4, 2005. She was constructed at Meyer Werft Shipyard in Papenburg, Germany and was christened on November 3, 2005 at an official ceremony at the Port of Miami. Her godmother is Melania Trump, wife of Donald Trump. In an episode of The Apprentice, Donald Trump required the contestants to create a 30-second commercial of the ship, featuring both exterior and interior shots.

The Norwegian Jewel is one of NCL’s four Jewel-class ships. The other three are Jade, Pearl, and Gem. Each ship has unique amenities, but has a similar exterior and interior design. At 965 feet long, the Jewel is not as big as the Disney Fantasy. However, it is still very impressive, and has a better crew to passenger ratio. I expect service to be top notch.
